Managing pressure in a King Keg

My home brew education continues. As always, I've scanned the forum several times to try to find a straightforward answer to my question, and while I've picked up a ton of useful information on the way, I can't find exactly what I'm looking for, so I'll ask. I've just fermented my first two...

Wilkos to close 15 stores. :/

Thanks. I did check out my local Range when I started but I was only looking for bottles so may have missed more general home brew stuff. I’ll take another look. Thanks for the great tip. I’ve just ordered their general Ale Yeast, and you’re right - postage included! (Though I added 50p for the...

Wilkos to close 15 stores. :/

I’ll try reviving this thread before starting a new one. My 2 nearest Wilko branches are absolutely useless for home brew stuff. The home brew shelves are literally empty and the staff seemed to have no idea why, or if/when things would improve. So my question is whether there’s anywhere else...

Bottle draining rack / potato baker

Better to get one of the dedicated plastic bottle drainers. Mine holds 50 bottles but you can keep adding layers of 10 if you want. Your potato baker looks pretty unstable.

    Obtaining bottles

Oh, that's interesting to know. Thanks.

    Obtaining bottles

Some people suggest asking your local pub. I presume they'd be happy to offload a few. If they pay a deposit on the bottles you'd have to compensate them I guess, but it shouldn't be much. Personally, I'm adding a few bottles of bitter each time I do a weekly supermarket shop. Most of them have...

Powdered hop extract - Admiral's Reserve

Thanks for the explanation. This may explain why the lids were so hard to remove. Seems like they did a pretty good job of keeping the air out. On getting the lids off, I siphoned one immediately into a King Keg and the other into a bottling bucket and from there into 36 swing top bottles. So...

Powdered hop extract - Admiral's Reserve

Erm, no. I took the airlock out, replaced it with a tight rubber bung and put the FV into the fridge. Was that the wrong thing to do? How do you "draw Co2 back into the fermenter"?

    Football Season 2022/23.

Looks like Potter is going. I didn't think I could despise Chelsea more than I do but this is a new low. Yeah, yeah, "But he's merely making a career choice" as a mate said to me earlier. That's the logical view. Football is rarely logical. For some of us, people born in Brighton who saw the...

Powdered hop extract - Admiral's Reserve

I cold crashed on day 14 and bottled on day 16. Being an incompetent newbie I made a mess of my hydrometer readings but I guessed that fermentation must have finished. I took the FV out of the fridge, siphoned to a bottling bucket which had 80g of dissolved brewing sugar in it, and then bottled...

Your brewing regime and managing beer stock levels

I have some space and (maybe more important) a spouse who’s willing to tolerate this new hobby. I have one King Keg (newly occupied) and about 60 bottles, 24 of them free + 3 unused FVs. I think I’ll have to get another barrel to ensure a sort of rolling level of stock, as well as continuing to...

Powdered hop extract - Admiral's Reserve

I’m also a new brewer who’s just bottled some Admiral’s Reserve. After reading conflicting advice I added the hops and yeast together, without stirring. No idea if that was the best idea but it smelt delicious yesterday when I bottled it. It was clear as a bell after 48 hours of cold crashing. I...

Your brewing regime and managing beer stock levels

Ok good, that’s a relief. I mean, very impressive an'all but it’s not a direction I want to go down at this stage so I can spare the credit card for another day. But well done on putting it together.

Your brewing regime and managing beer stock levels

I’m hesitant to ask as I’ve already amassed more gear than expected. But what the heck is a barrelater? :)

Covid booster: Who will get another *** this autumn?

Are we really going to squabble over this stuff again? I had 2 solid years of people accusing each other of talking bullsh1t and listening to the wrong sort of experts. Look, have the *** if you want to have it. Don’t if you don’t.

Your brewing regime and managing beer stock levels

Can I ask you to describe this more? Honestly, I’m not questioning it but just trying to understand this. I think of brewing as a relatively short period while conditioning can be a long period. And drinking could be either short or long. Something I can’t get my head round is whether...

I like simplicity of that system even though I’m a spreadsheet man by nature.

I see no reason not to.

Your brewing regime and managing beer stock levels

Hi Everyone. I'm a new brewer with just two kits fermented so far and both a long way from drinking stage (I'm prepared to be very patient). But it's got me thinking about how best to manage my brewing regime so that I'll always have something drinkable i.e. as one or two brews are reaching...

    Football Season 2022/23.

The usual Top 6 are almost certain to be the final top 6. But (with the possible exception of City finishing top), no one can predict the order -- though no doubt fans of the individual 6 will all be insisting that their teams are certain to be in the top 4. Apart from anything else, we have a...
