    Too much sugar

Hi guys, Thanks for the pointers. Today I have split it, around 5 days in. I topped up with boiled/cooled water and some apple juice I had left over. It's now reading at 1032, which seems to be much better. I pitched in a little more yeast (about half a teaspoon in each) along with the...

    Too much sugar

I used a Wineworks cider yeast. It's only a 5L demijohn too. Should I add more yeast later in the process?

    Too much sugar

Hi guys, I've not brewed nothing in ages. I came across this guy on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLycH3ktLfk) and it inspired me to get cracking again. Tonight I made the strawberry cider in that video. Anyway, I was trying to follow the recipe from memory and I have a bad...

Will this work for a strawberry beer?

I recently made strawberry cider and it was strawberry concentrate that went in at the bottling stage and it worked out really nice.

    Something Broke

OK I've done the whole starter thing with some yeast nutrient and added it to the beer. I've also moved it a little closer to the radiator and wrapped a towel around the barrel incase the recent bad weather is making it too cold. Fingers crossed. No just to decide what to do for my xmas brew...

    Something Broke

lol I'll look out for that. Would the finings have anything to do with it? Will they allow another batch of yeast to do their job?

    Something Broke

I'll try and get hold of some yeast, what do you mean by a starter? The SG was about 1008 or something, it jumped to 1020 after I added the sugar to the pressure barrel when transferring the beer from the fermenting barrel. Thanks for your help with this, I shall raise a glass to you when I'm...

    Something Broke

Well I notice a little problem with the seal when I was cleaning it, but I thought I'd sorted it. Would a broken seal kill the yeast? I understand it would stop the pressure building.

    Something Broke

Hi guys, It's been back inside since posting. I've just tested it again and it's pretty much the same. It's cleared up somewhat now but there is still now pressure in the barrel and the hydrometer reading is still the same 1020. I had a taste and it is quite sweet. Is it fooked? Is there...

    Something Broke

I did add sugar .. And it was about 3-4 days. Hmm I'll try move it back inside. It's been fine after a couple of days on my other brews, strange.

    Something Broke

Hi guys, In the middle of my 3rd homebrew now. It's almost ready, or so I thought. I'm making a nice malt lager this time, something similar to Corona I guess. Fermentation went well, a few days ago I transferred it to my pressure barrel and this time I added some finings as my last couple...

    Hydrometer Reading for Cider

Evening all, I've been making my first batch of strawberry cider. It has been in a pressure barrel for a couple of weeks now, I have just done a hydrometer test and it's reading at 1,010. I'm not sure what it should be for cider, can somebody help me out? Thanks

    Taking the next step

Hi Dunfie, I guess I'm not sure myself. I guess I don't want to empty the contents of a kit into a barrel and leave it for two weeks, I'd like to buy the ingredients myself and actually make the beer :D

    Taking the next step

Hi guys, So I made my first lager with a beginners kit, which was good fun. The taste was ok and it was pretty strong so all in all, I want to do it again, but this time without the little beginners kit. I have a pressure barrel, drum etc etc most of the kit I need. So I guess I just need to...

    Them yeasties

In fact, I'm drinking it now. I think it's a little strong though. Oh well :drink:

    Them yeasties

Thanks for your reply. Yeah the finings are to just clear it. Doesn't matter really. Thanks!

    Them yeasties

Hi guys, Will any yeast do when brewing beer? I have a can left over from when I made bread, can I use them? Also, if I add finings to my beer, is it drinkable right away? I understand it may take about a week to work. Cheers

    CO2 Injector

Hi guys, I have this pressure barrel from Tesco and a CO2 injector I bought to give it a little fizz. I intend on making a rather large dent in the amount of beer I have this evening. On Tuesday, I injected one cylinder of CO2 into the barrel. I have just had a little taste and it is a...
