    turbo cider

Also use the Lidl 1.5L packs. Got a load of it out in the garage now to be turned into cider. For a straight turbo cider I use 18L juice, ~1L tea (5 bags well stewed), and 4 tsp of pectolase dissolved in the tea after bags removed, no idea if this makes any difference to anything but the first...

    What was your first car?

A 1982/3 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6 GLX hatchback. It was in some horrid orangy brown colour (bit like rust) with a matching interior. Horrible car. Bought it privately and not long after it started randomly cutting out, not ideal when it happens on the outside lane of the M4, managed to coast...

Does elderflower champagne always have to be bottled so early?!

I've never made it but would like to give it a go one day. Personally I'd also go with the let it ferment out completely and then prime option. I also have a complete inability to stick to any sort of schedule when brewing so any intention to bottle on day 6-7 would mean it would still be in...

    Scum

I had a Scooby-Doo too years ago, amazing car, mine was a 2000 plate Impreza Turbo with a few mods. Stuck with boring cars these days due to family and so on.

    Scum

Was going to say that too (also a car bore 🙂). Would like a Yaris GR though unfortunately £30k used is a bit out of my price range at the moment.

    De-gassing 1st time

Presumably as part of racking into the secondary the kit included some sodium metabisulfite to add. In the kits this usually comes in a sachet marked stabiliser and will be a combination of potassium sorbate and the sulfite, it serves two purposes, this: And killing off the yeast so...

    Heat wave.. Are You ready?

Yep, beer is chilled. It is important to stay hydrated when it's hot. Might need to get the kids pool up this weekend. Was invaluable for a cooling lunchtime dip when WFH in last years 2 weeks of silly heat. 😁

    Best yeast for turbo cider

I also use the CML cider yeast with great effect. Reminds me, must order some more as I've bought juice from Lidl already 🙂 In terms of flavouring if I want it I just add some syrup to the glass when serving. I have made a strawberry and lime cider before now though which had a bottle of...

    Oak flavoured beer?

I've made a kit beer before now (Young's American Oak Rum Ale) that comes with a large sachet of oak dust that I'm guessing would have been from a rum cask. Most things that are oaked tend to take that flavour from the oak casks they are matured in (wine, beer, whisky etc.) and those oak casks...

Pressure dials when cylinder turned off- do I have a leak?

Probably quite important in a commercial environment because if you walk into a cellar that has a rich CO2 atmosphere due to a leak you might not walk out of it again 😮 There's been an number of tragedies in the oil and gas industry when someone has gone inside an "empty" vessel not realising...

Pressure dials when cylinder turned off- do I have a leak?

@DocAnna Mine do this as well, primary and 3 secondaries. All secondaries isolated from the kegs with their built in shut off valves when I turn off the gas. Quite confident I don't have a leak as when I did have one in the past it was quite evident from the rate I was getting through CO2...

    Clean, really clean or FFS

Whilst I understand the need for cleanliness in brewing I do tend to agree that there are some who take it a bit too far. I might just be lucky and got away with it over the years but my cleaning / sterilisation doesn't go beyond just cleaning stuff with a little bit of detergent after a brew...

    The Weekend's DIY Thread

So I'll set the ball rolling... I've been longing to get some electric to my shed at the other end of our garden for some time now, just to caveat I did study Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Uni so sort of know what I'm doing before anyone starts quoting Part P at me and so on 😉...

    The Weekend's DIY Thread

As I'm sure many of us partake in odd DIY activities over the weekend (or even in the week) thought it might be amusing to have a thread of what went well for you, what you've achieved, what went bad and so on 😁

Carbonating lager - prime v force - pressure barrel

Probably all ok with a few caveats. 2.3 volumes CO2 is at the low end of a lager carbonation so depends if you like you lager to be particularly fizzy or not. Personally I'm fine with less gassy beer. If you can get it below 10°C then it will absorb more at 15 PSI. Secondly pressure barrels...
