    Easy Keg 5L

Cheers. Useful info’. Do you use the party star tap or the inbuilt keg tap? The tap bit for me is the key selling point - it looks great! As this thread has developed over the years there has been an explosion in use of CO2 products for tire inflation (there’s a few threads here and maybe...

Starter kit indecision. HomeBrewCompany or MaltMiller

I use a siphon and sediment trap. I added stabilisers though by mounting the sediment trap through the centre of a tea strainer mesh. I’m using Nottingham yeast and I find it sticks to the bottom of the FV anyway and the tea strainer mesh helps for me!

What are the dimensions of the bung and bung hole in the keg? Interested in the party star tap system.has Anyone got one? Can they be modded to a sodastream connection ?

Brew - crystal clear but malty (almost like malt vinegar without full acidic tone)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah kits likely fine. I’m working on primary assumption that the fermentation stalled and then vinegar as you say. Either generated by an infection or oxygen. I’m working on temperature control - the cupboard has an inkbird controller into a 40w heater but tbh only heats...

Brew - crystal clear but malty (almost like malt vinegar without full acidic tone)

I did my usual - use a kit 100% no sugar at half the volume. This time it’s given a crystal clear malty drink. I suspect the yeast stalled in the recent cold spell (confirmed by a hydrometer reading). It’s an odd drink slightly dry finish, sweet at first. I think it’s 50% vinegar - the brew...

    Ultrasonic beer enhancer

I was browsing for an all in one system and an ultrasonic beer tap product popped up. Reminds me of quackery. An alternative is to ask Mariah Carey to scream into your fermenter ? “The Nordic Beer Tap uses ultrasonic technology to enhance the flavour and taste of your beer. You will be able to...

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

I’m very tempted to try a build one of these. After getting a smart watch and playing about with powerBI static data I think with some work I could get the hydrometer reading on the dashboard.

    Klarstein introduce a pro version

Blimey. I imagine that might cause other Klarstein systems to drop in price?

    Diacetyl (Butterscotch)

At the moment the chamber is the old lizard vivarium so not insulated but historically used regulated temperature ( not in the garage though). I’ll have a look into insulation

    Diacetyl (Butterscotch)

Similar It’s a pale ale single hop so very little hop presence. Is it something that is there but masked normally?

    Diacetyl (Butterscotch)

Thanks. I’ve put a greenhouse 40w heater in a cabinet but have only really been holding 17C recently but can’t get above it. Last night it was very cold and the Inkbird temperature suggests it’s only 12C in there. I have temp logging so I can probably see how cold the ambient got overnight with...

    Diacetyl (Butterscotch)

I’m still struggling with diacetyl. I am raising temps as suggested but Oddly it didn’t seem to show up in kit fermentation only the all grain batches (same yeast used). So I’m wondering if it’s the malts, mash process or hop additions? To mash I just get water to 70C on hob, add malts, take off...

    All in one systems.

I Im brewing in 2x 7L pasta pots on an induction hob in the kitchen. I too get sugary spills. I’m tempted by an all in one (klarstein maischfest is available for £154.99 delivered). However, I’m unsure the quality of beer would improve. I’m happy with clarity. Batch volumes would increase as I...

are you keeping the fermentation vessel indoors ?

    All in one systems.

We’ve had an outdoor electrical socket fitted. I’m debating whether to use an all in one system outside as the other half hates the smell. I have found an alternative a klarstein konifstar 40 litre automatic preserver £109.99. Not primarily for brewing (for jam and mulled wine) but looks like...

Wort chiller with no faucet connector

Depends on the kitchen tap. For mine I used the hoZelock tap adaptor. This gets you to 1/2” or 3/4” bsp. Then I run a 3/4” washing machine cable to a 3/4” bsp to 1/2” bsp adaptor. Then I bought a 1/2” bsp to 10mm compression adaptor to the coil.

    Swing top bottles - dangerous?

I like the pop sound from swing top bottles. I’ve got an overcarbonated batch at the moment (for me seems to be kit beers which take an age to finish compared to all grain). Anyway I open the swingtop s with hand over the top, then leave beer in bottle for about a minute. Then pour a heady pint...
