    pressure barrel/keg needed

Read these https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/do-you-use-pressure-barrels-or-bottles-for-your-home-brewed-beer.88284 https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/whats-your-view-on-plastic-pressure-barrels-pbs.88283 In short some like PBs, others don't, and of those interested in 'em...

    Cascade hops

I obviously don't know where you buy your Cascade hops, but I frequently use Crossmyloof and have found that it is definitely worth spending a bit extra on the Cascade US hops if you are looking for 'citrus', since I found the UK variety lacking in that...

    Cascade hops

I found the Blonde very anaemic, but the AuPA had more going for it. I looked up my records and found I did the AuPA sixteen times with a variety of different hops, grain steeps and minimashes. If you want something with even more going for it you could consider the Bootmakers kit. However I...

    Decent Lager kit

Coopers 86 day Pilsner also comes with the same lager yeast. However you might need to use extra lager yeast if you intend to ferment below say 14-15*C although some have managed with the single 7g kit yeast (I didn't).

    Cascade hops

I suggest Coopers AuPA with 500g Light DME and 500g Dextrose, brewed to 21 litres. This kit is quite lightly hopped and so you will get to notice your Cascade hops, whether in a dry hop or a hop tea. And a 150g light crystal malt steep will also help things along too.

    Doubling up 1 can kits

Not in the ones I did. It ferments out as all LME as predicted by the calculators. The variable is the yeast, which for the kits I did usually attenuates to between 70-74% with a few exceptions.

    Malt extract

Reports would be by me and a few others, which is why I dont use LME except in prehopped form Perhaps @mancer62 could tell us if he/she bought any back in 2018 https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/malt-extract.76099/

    Doubling up 1 can kits

For an OG of 1.052 my guess for an FG would be about 1.012/1.013 or thereabouts, so if its finished at 1.018 it's stuck. Wilko kits are made by Muntons and they have past history on stuck kit fermentations. This might be useful, but whether you follow the advice within it is up to you...

    Morgans Beer Kits

You won't go far wrong with a Coopers Stout kit, or which there are two. There are long review threads here https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/coopers-irish-stout-review.17818/ https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/coopers-original-stout-review.17817/ For me the jury is out on these...

    Hello from south east London

Try this for starters. In it there is a shopping list. https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/basic-beginners-guide-to-brewing-your-own-beer-from-a-kit.57526/ My suggestion to anyone starting brewing is to get a few kits under your belt, then when you have gained a little experience and...

Barrel and Mini Keg Newbie - Advice required

Any sugar you add to a PB or minikeg will ferment to produce CO2 which will carbonate your beer and provide back pressure to force beer out of the tap. Personally I just used to put the sugar into the PB or minikeg as it comes, then fill the beer on top of it, on the understanding that it...

    Ale too fizzy

I use this to calculate priming sugar quantities. https://www.brewersfriend.com/beer-priming-calculator/ You will see the carbing levels for British Ales is 1.5 to 2.0 vols CO2, which equates to 2.6 to 4.6g per litre, which is quite a wide variation. I suggest you aim for 1.6 vols if you like...

Is this ready for the barrel yet?

I only used bottles now. A mixture of flip tops and PET. I gave up on PBs due to leaks. I also stopped using repurposed 5 litre minikegs due to the metallic taste they developed. That said some on here believe PBs are the dogs whatsits, and others are happy using very expensive minikegs systems...

    Help reading water report

Thanks for that explanation So the calculator I linked is nowt to do with alkalinity, it is, as it says, only 'total hardness' it uses. So does this include all calcium whether as sulphate permanent hardness or bicarbonate temporary hardness (or both?), which was my original assumption, and why...

    Help reading water report

Thankyou. That makes sense. Given what you said I looked again at my water values and the calculator I linked and it was total hardness I was using not alkalinity which explained why I was getting agreement with the numbers. And the same calculator also confirms Ca 96/ Mg 6.3/ TH as CaCO3...
