    pressure barrel/keg needed

As its a budget PB you very definitely need to read and undertake the guide recommendations in post 14 regarding pre-service checks before you commit beer to the PB. After you have checked everything is tight etc carry out a pressure test by filling the PB with about 23 litres of water then very...

    Malt extract

Looks like the THBC have sold out completely on DME at the present time. That's where I normally buy from. I buy mine in multiples of 3kg (costing £16.50, was £14.50). I'm OK at the moment for supplies but what with stopping free postage and price increases I might be looking elsewhere for my...

Is there a special forum place for brewing 'orrible stuff in bottles...

The good thing about this forum is that there is a diverse cross section of people making/brewing alcoholic drinks of some sort. At one end (and with due respect to the OP) there is the creation of ''orrible stuff', and at the other end we have beer brewers with fully and very expensively...

    Advice please

As @Clint says doubling up on two lager cans is not a bad thing. But as you already do partial mashes have you considered making up mash and a boil with some base malt and some of the cara gold and then add that to each of the kits. I've done something similar to a 1.7kg kit with a 20g Cascade...

    SS pot as fermenter

Try your SS pot with cling film, and if it makes no difference to your beer revert back to your plastic FV and/or treat yourself to a new plastic FV.

    Gushing Cwtch

The amount of CO2 in a bottle of beer is mostly in solution. If you have a gusher that could be say 3 volumes or even higher which equates to 1500ml plus of C02 gas at ambient pressure (although only say half of that is likely to bubble out over a short space of time). The volume of C02 in the...

    Using kegs instead of bottles

The bungs are the same as mine. I don't think it makes much difference which brewery you bought your minikegs from. They are all made from lacquered (coated) steel most probably sourced from two suppliers either Huber or Fass Frisch from what I understand. Most seem to be Huber and the top bung...

    Using kegs instead of bottles

If its like the grey bungs I have they have got a plastic insert which fits bottom up, and which you keep in place as you insert the bung into the vent hole. Then if you want to vent the keg you push the insert into the minikeg for recovery later. I used a smear of vaseline to help insert the...

    pressure barrel/keg needed

Or you get nothing because it leaked all the pressure overnight, and then it bubbles back through the tap. No pressure to drive out the beer, and n litres of potentially spoiling beer to drink quickly before it goes off. Been there, done that

    Nelson’s Revenge SG

@prospectjim66 Although its difficult to be exact looks about 1.006 to me if your hydrometer is read at the bottom of the meniscus* so its probably done. So do as @lupinehorror suggests. *If you are a bit unfamiliar with reading a hydrometer try this...

    Gushing Cwtch

@WarryM Its possible that the primary restarted in your bottles if the gravity was 1.013 at bottling and that is responsible for your gushers, although I don't know what the expected FG for this kit normally turns out to be. You could try chilling a couple of bottles to as near 0*C as you can...

Looking for that WOW factor - am I falling out of love with beer?

AG covers an awful lot of ground from 5 litre stove top BIAB to shiny all in ones costing £100s or even more. You really need to decide how much you want to brew at a time and what your budget is. Less volume usually means less kit.

    Doubling up 1 can kits

There are now three threads on this one brew (including this one) with just about every relevant suggestion you could make. Now done to death in my view. https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/using-2x1can-kits.90918 https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/doubling-up-hoppy-copper-kit.90911

    Favourite album covers.

Although not a particular favourite of mine I think this had one of the most easily recognisable covers in its day.

Check over the PBs before you put into service using this as a help. https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/guide-to-a-standard-home-brew-pressure-barrel.67042/ I had four PBs once of the sort you look to have. They all split or developed pin hole leaks within 2 years of first use. So now I...

    pressure barrel/keg needed

If you do go down the PB route you need to look through these to get the best out of it, especially checking over from new so you have done your best to ensure its leaktight when you first put beer in it...

That reminded me of the bar scene in 'Ice Cold In Alex'.
