    Kveik - temperature question

I've just done a dry hop so it needs to stay in the primary for another day or 2 really. I'll just follow it down slowly I think.. just drop the temperature to match what it's naturally when I see it. I wonder if a 30c dry hop is a good idea anyway. Also I had a taste and I know it's only 2...

    Kveik - temperature question

I have a Kveik beer in the brew fridge we speak. Pitched yeast Saturday night, it was absolutely roaring at 35c all Sunday then this morning it's slowed right down and temp is registering 30c and tested gravity and it's at 1.016 which is probably very close to finishing now (sg 1.070). My...

Anyone up for some bulk hops?

Hey mate do you keg, or are you planning on in the near future? I just bought 1 of these party taps but 5 arrived. Would you like me to throw one in the package with the hops?

    matt76's Brewdays

Hahah you're in good company because, I've never made the same beer twice! I'm always messing with something. But I also like trying new beers and if I'm in a pub with lots of range (those were the days) I'll often not have the same beer twice so that's my excuse.

    matt76's Brewdays

Re: hoppy amber, it looks a lovely recipe. You could mess with the hop schedule I guess, I'd say a neutral bittering addition like magnum/centennial at 30min then the rest in at 10min or 05min with a whirlpool addition and a (not over the top) dry hop?

    Fury Tea's brewdays

Just checked the gravity and it's 1.070 which is a bit higher than expected, maybe because I did a step mash, maybe also because I've started conditioning my grain. No need for rice hulls any more either. Checked the wort temperature as well and it was 19c! D'oh! The garage floor must've sucked...

    Fury Tea's brewdays

Brew day today. Installed my RO filter under the sink in the garage. Thanks to John Guest push fit plumbing it took me about 3 minutes: Collected my water yesterday, and did my water treatments for an NEIPA brew day Robobrew set for the morning. Oh and my 25kg of Vienna has arrived so that...

    Grain mill drill

What kind of drill do you use for your grain mill? I have a handheld black n decker that's ok but it lacks power and I have a plug in drill don't even know the make but it's old and cheap. Can drill a hole in a wood beam just fine but a few mins of crushing makes it sweat smoke. And even on its...

First boil in a bag brew - damn, how did that happen!?

There's a few things that could contribute to this situation. Try to learn from this and rule them out next time. 1. Inaccurate measurements Did you measure wort at the right temp and if not did you correct for temp? 2. Grain crush A finer grain crush helps with lower efficiency from BIAB 3...

    Brewing with excess stock

Hops serve a few purposes in beer. One is bitterness and we get most of that bitterness from boiling. Most recipes, unless it's using hopped extract (where hops are already added to the malt extract) or you're brewing an NEIPA will have some amount of bittering where you add hops and boil for an...

    Brewing with excess stock

I wouldn't dry hop the Saaz myself. You need a bittering hop. Do you only have 30g of Saaz and that's it? You could do with adding some hops later in the boil as well if possible Have you ever made an extract beer from scratch before? If I was you I'd read some articles, watch YouTube vids and...

    Brewing with excess stock

You're not far off a lager-y style ale with those ingredients but you could do with a bittering hop. 30g of Saaz boiled in some of the malt for 30-60 mins would do it.

Getting labels for your home brew.

I design mine on Photoshop, but you can get 'Gimp' for free and it does everything you'd need. It's not rocket science to use but it does take a bit of practice and watching of tutorials to get to know how it works. I could do a basic label in under 5 minutes (usually consists of nicking a...
