Optimum Amount Of Liquid Malt Extract?

Just a quick update: I went ahead and used what I had available which after a failed first attemp where I overboiled 33g of Summit. (I had put the hops in a bag and had kept the gas on full for a furious boil resulting in a dry pan and no liquid). But I will learn. That left me with around 36g...

Optimum Amount Of Liquid Malt Extract?

Does anyone know approx how much summit hops I'd need to achieve this sort of IBU figure? And would this be in 1L of water? I've seen people use these little coffee press machines which look to have way less than a Litre

Optimum Amount Of Liquid Malt Extract?

i have some spare summit hops here would they do? are they a good bittering hop? is summit ok to use as a bittering hop in an IPA? I would like to use the least amount of water I possibly can so would 1L be the very least you would recommend or could i get away with less? Also what amount of...

Optimum Amount Of Liquid Malt Extract?

Please excuse my ignorance.but would simply adding this extract solve the bittering problem in unhoppped LME?

Optimum Amount Of Liquid Malt Extract?

I have just checked and the LME I am using is indeed "unhopped" this would obviously explain why I am getting a sweeter beer. I purchased this LME because it is a good deal plus getting 2.4kg for the price of 1.5kg However not realising its Unhopped may mean its a false economy as I'd need to...

Optimum Amount Of Liquid Malt Extract?

Sorry if i wasnt clear marshbrewer....no dont add 2.4kg to a 1.5kg coopers kit. i now use 2.4kg of liquid malt extract instead of using a 1.5kg coopers kit. i then add 1kg brown sugar and i dry hop with 100g of hops. im just wondering recently if its all just a bit sweet,,,,,and before u ask my...

Optimum Amount Of Liquid Malt Extract?

Is there such a thing as the optimum amount of LME when making a 5 gallon (40 bottle) batch of home brew? For years I just brewed using Coopers Kits which is 1.5kg of extract then added some dry hops and to me with great results. I used to listen to others who claimed this wasn't enough to give...

    Krausen

what do u mean exactly opening the bottles at 3 and 7 days?
  10. mancer62

    Krausen

I just bottled and kegged 2 batches of IPA which still had a very active looking Krausen in my FV. In past experience the Krausen usually all but disappears but this time it hadn't. I was using a 10g pack of dry yeast (Clipper) specifically suited to IPA's. I brewed late on the 12th of May and...

What Hop goes best with Summit

I simply add a couple of kettles of boiling water and mix my extract and sugar...when the temp is low 20 degrees I pitch my yeast. I wait 5 days then add my hops inside a muslin bag. I then wait approx a week then keg/bottle

What Hop goes best with Summit

I am a 100% extract brewer who only dry hops so I think whirpooling etc doesn't come into it for me. What would be your advice be to me adding it as a dry hop? 100g of it alone or a different amount added to another hop?

What Hop goes best with Summit

I have a 100g pack of Summit that I was going to use as a single hop IPA but I have been told that this might not be a good idea as it is a domineering hop which sometimes tastes oniony!!! Is there any other hop youd suggest that goes well with Summit and perhaps compliments and enhances it? I...

Best Time To Add Dry Hops?

I was wondering if I was missing out on taste or quality of my final brew by just Dry Hopping on the 5th day then kegging/bottling a week or so later. Cost is obviously a bit of an issue so I tend to use a max of 100g of Hops which I find very satisfactory. However I understand others add some...

    Adding Sugar

Nicks90 it wont be as strong as that as i am adding it to 23 litres of water not 21....and something tasty like malt is in there....2.4kg of it.

    Adding Sugar

Would defeat the purpose of finding out what each individual hop was like plus...one reason I do homebrew is to try save on cost..I dont think paying for 400g in one batch would be cost effective for myself.

    Adding Sugar

I dont know about jumping on a bandwagon but I must admit I do seem to love all the American & NEIPA cans and bottles I have drank and would def like to create a brew in that direction.

    Adding Sugar

Yes I understand that sugar turns to alcohol. I dont normally aim for blow your head off strength beers its more about taste for me. I certainly don't want a sweet brew that why U am asking after so much LME what the recommended amount of brown sugar would be without it getting sweet.... I love...

    Adding Sugar

I am planning to make a 40 pint brew this week using 2.4kg of LME......I will also be dry hopping with 100g of hops. I usually add a kg of Brown Sugar but would this be recommended after using 2.4kg of LME. I don't want an over sweet Ale so would be grateful for any advice or feedback...
