Should i just bin my hydrometer?

I included the 3l of boiling water in my total so I haven't added 26l I've added 23l of water but I've it accounted for the 1.8kg of extract and the 1kg of enhancer which would obviously push the beer over the 23l mark on my FV....in future I will be careful not to make this mistake again...it...

Should i just bin my hydrometer?

Dark rock have a sticker on the yeast telling u to add between 18 & 24 or 25 degrees which I done...also I added 23l of water to the fv exactly but thinking about it is thus correct? I mean do u add the 1.8kg of extract and the 1kg of enhancer then 23l of water? Or does doing actually make the...

Should i just bin my hydrometer?

By all accounts dark rock are an excellent home brew outlet with very knowledgeable and helpful staff they get fantastic reviews and after reading and viewing a number of these I decided to try.....I must say it would be helpful if they put an og as well as a fg but it seems very harsh to call...

Should i just bin my hydrometer?

Once again I have a.hydrometer issue lol which to me continues to read very low. Would I be correct in thinking that regardless of using a hydrometer or not an extract kit should ferment out to a certain abv? For example what should 1.8kg of malt extract brewed with 1kg of beer enhancer be? I...

Is there anyway you can sligthly sweeten a kegged stout?

For quickness and prob laziness lol U decided on the syrup method...rightly or wrongly with my amounts I dissolved 4 level desert spoon of regular white sugar in half pint of water which I stirred for 5 mins. I added to my pint of stout and must say it's made a difference much more...

Is there anyway you can sligthly sweeten a kegged stout?

Ty for all the replies very I formative indeed cheers. Graz: you suggested a simple sugar syrup using caster sugar & water. If I use this can I ask what amount of water and caster sugar I'd need to use for a corny (32 pints I think)? Also does it have to be caster sugar as I have a bag of...

Is there anyway you can sligthly sweeten a kegged stout?

Hi there I have just made a Simply Stout which is a basic 1.8kg extract kit. I brewed it with 1kg of brewing sugar & 500g of demerara sugar.....the OG was 1044 and finished at 1004 which I believe is around 5.25% ABV. While understanding this is a basic Low cost beer it has non the less a good...

Does my Stout FG seem too low?

Hi sorry for the delay......the kit is a "Simply" Stout which is 1.8kg of extract. I brewed 5gallons/40pints...I added 1kg of brewing sugar and 500g if demerara sugar. No the instructions only suggested the 1kg of brewing sugar. The yeast I used was the yeast that came with the kit which said "...

Does my Stout FG seem too low?

Hi there just brewed an extract stout (1.8kg kit) 7 days ago with an OG of 1044.....I made this kit with 1kg brewing sugar & added 500g of demorara sugar I took a reading today and it's at 1004....which according to ABV Calculator is 5.25%. Does this FG sound a bit low for a Stout?

    Have i ruined my beer?

Doesn't seem worth the effort.....what if I use 13g strips of gelatine leaf. Would thus work?....I have a packet of 8 x 13g leafs. Would u just boil a cup of water and stir in one 13g leaf then let cool before adding? Is it best to add to the primary fv after fermentation. If so how long for? I...

    Have i ruined my beer?

So would doing what I mentioned above with putting fv in sink, cold water, frozen bottles of water etc be a worthless operation?

    Have i ruined my beer?

Would I be correct in thinking cold crashing helps settle and clear your beer I unfortunately don't have the means to cold crash properly. However would sitting the fv in a sink or bath of cold water with frozen 2 litre pepsi bottles do the job or not? If so how long would be recommended?

    Have i ruined my beer?

On Friday night I made a 5 gallon extract kit. Last night I threw in loose hop pellets while the beer was fermenting pretty vigorously. This morning there is a strong happy smell and the brew is green. Previously I have always added hops in a muslin bag on day 5. What can I now expect from...

    SOME DRY HOP ADVICE.

I recently made a 40 pint Simply Pale Ale Kit (1.8kg). I added a total of 100g of cascade, amarillo & chinook. It is perfectly drinkable but to be truthful not brilliant. There's a def sharp hop taste which I'd like mellowed a bit. I used equal amount of the hops 33g each and am wondering should...

    Kveik voss

I harvested two glass jars of kveik voss yeast in March last year (14 months ago) and was wondering if it would be OK to use it again. I have never harvested or reused yeast before. I didn't wash it or anything like that I simply poured it into a couple of sanitised jam jars. If it is OK to use...
