Braumeister 20l - Original CONTROLLER unit for sale on EBAY

As long as these newfangled internet connected controllers don't get crowdstruck or just obsoleted after a few years like my Samsung smart TV.

Bag in a Box - Any good?

Are you sure you want to start with 2.5 vol? Normally if youre going to do destructive testing you start lower & build up. It costs less in replacement equipment. Looking at my ancient concertina camping water container, I'm not sure if it would split along the folds or go at the tap connector...

Picture or Video of the day.

I'm sorry, it was my fault causing @The Baron to recount his abduction/encounter. Or were you out making crop circles in the nice weather. I'm not sure I approve of minor reductions in grain harvest.

Help with a recipe! (previously "keeping it simple")

If you've done half a dozen all grain brews before, you should be up for making your own recipe. Go for an English pale or golden ale, it's easy. My rule of thumb is 3kg base malt = just over 3%, 4.5kg base malt = 4.5% based on a 23l standard brew volume. 10-15g bittering hops at the start of...

    Hot weather food

Raspberries & strawberries direct from the plant on a PYO farm. Strawberries picked warm with sun on them. Raspberries cooler, on the shady side of the cane.

    Hop mashing

I would think it's more like adding hops to a 80c hopstand/whirlpool. If you search hopstand you will get an idea of the quantity & time people use. (From memory 20 mins at 80c was a popular one) To me flameout hops literally go in when you turn off the power, and unless you've got a rapid...

    Hops pellet or flowers/cones

Cones for me. When I tried pellets they just ooze through my hop bags & sludge up everything.

    Brew in a Bag Efficiency

I don't agree on this foxy. Threads don't time expire & if they contain pertinent information there is no reason not to continue

Stu’s edited Questions thread #3 alternative grain basket for Maischfest (or similar)

No there is still a minimum liquid level in the bottom. In my attempts to get a working process (because I don't want to be beaten by new kit) I ignored the pump & used a jug (and ladder cus I'm a short ar5e) to recirculate.

    Old beer

I think I've got a couple of bottles of last year's Christmas brew left.

Stu’s edited Questions thread #3 alternative grain basket for Maischfest (or similar)

Fullhorn has about 3l below the false bottom & that's enough to clear the bazooka. The Maishfest replaces false bottom with a malt pipe & the malt pipe legs are so short and spindly that you can't fit a bazooka filter to the tap. Which is a right bu66er if you prefer to use loose leaf hops.

Stu’s edited Questions thread #3 alternative grain basket for Maischfest (or similar)

I'm still trying to get a decent brew from my Maishfest. I'm comparing my experience & results to BIAB on my Fullhorn. At the moment I would say the upgrade was pointless. I've already ruled out using the cooling coil as too much faff compared to overnight chill. I'm not tall enough to lift out...

    New Capri

The thing is, I think the Chinese will bring out a low cost electric people's car soon and clean up because normal people need basic reliable no frills transport. All the current manufacturers are pumping out overly complex and expensive vehicles, as they can only sell them based on 'tech' and...

    What did you brew today?

Started a porter for the winter. 4.5Kg Maris otter 200g crystal 250g choc malt. So far grain bed is refusing to filter nicely & I'm having to stir the mash every 10 minutes

    Bottles

I think you need an upgrade to your crown corker. 3 bottles per batch is not only too dangerous, but also a high wastage.

I think that's a little extreme on money saving tips. Have you uncovered a box of old Viz comics in your roof?

    Toasting pale malt

Lol, I remember my dad doing this on or gas cooker grill back in the 70's No idea how successful it was as I was just a kid at the time.
