Are we wasting our time with whirlpool/hopstands?

I thought it unlikely to be Shepherd Neame or Scottish & Newcastle given they are mostly traditional beers & not associated with hop juice

    Fuggle Hops

I use the classic British pairing of fuggles & EKG in everything from pales to porters.

Do these hops look ready to harvest yet?

They look further along than our museum hops here in the uk

    Too Old to brew ?

See, that's what I was expecting from this thread, not mashbag asking about best before dates

Anglian Craft Brewers Comp - All American - 15th November

Lol, nice to see regional competitions actively promoted here. (Even if I disagree with pushing American styles when we have such a rich indiginous brewing history in the UK)

    Football season 2024/2025

Sorry, I wish I found this interesting, but I don't. I find the disparity between grass roots football and the major leagues unacceptable and so much worse than the majority of other sports.

    Electric cars.

Im surprised that the more progressive energy companies (eg octopus) don't run a charge on my drive scheme yet, were others can borrow your charging point when not in use.

Metal bits in Robo Brew? Help!

At least if they are metal they should sink to the bottom & get discarded with the trub. But agree that it's more than a little disconcerting.

Swing top bottles - replacement seals on Range bottles

That's not cheap though is it compared to a batch of silicon/rubber washers

Are we wasting our time with whirlpool/hopstands?

Mine go in at flame out for between 5 and 10 minutes. Then I drain wort to FV to overnight chill while it's still hot.

    Toasting pale malt

Can't you just test malting on your first attempt & add some crystal malt for colour? Then step up.to test toasting/roasting.

    Ultra processed food

I suspect the last actual large scale scientific studies were done at the start of WW2 to set rationing limits. Its also not just food, it's ingrained human behaviour for too many cultures. Like: Cooking not being taught in schools an huge portions shown in film/TV/insta & served in eateries so...

    Floor corker woes

Interesting that wear is showing as sharp edges, do they rub against other metal parts to act like a knife sharpener? I would expect wear to make them more smooth over time. Try what @MashBag says, as I wonder if you need to let the cork regain its shape after being squeezed.

    Hello all!

Yes I am still using 2 vintage boots ones that must be 30 years old & still soldiering on.

    What did you do today?

Today (and most of this week) I've been helping setting up a music festival at the museum where I volunteer. Including issues like this where some numpy drives a vehicle into a marquee. (Note that's my apprentice holding the damaged marquee leg)

Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts?

A kick in the nuts lasts for an instant. Giving birth is hours. Could you put up with 'kicked in the nuts'/'bike crash on crossbar' type pain for that duration? I know I couldn't. Someone once told me nearest us blokes get is trying to pass kidney stones

Picture or Video of the day.

Poor photoshoping. Perspective is wrong on the top, you shouldn't be able to see the studs from that angle. Also the thickness ratio of the bridge deck is wrong, it should be 1/3rd the height of a standard brick. (Sorry, this is why my gaming user name is Lego Anorak😃)

    First time brewer

You need to be making a high volume to justify a garden shredder. Plus you need to make sure you can clean the insides to your required brewing standards. I've got my eye on a vegetable shredder that I've found in a cupboard at the museum for this year's batch rather than taking in my magimix...

    Pimp my kit

Seriously though, I've made one & it makes an inoffensive & pleasant white wine for summer drinking.
