    Electric cars.

I see problem with hybrid is that it give you the complexity of both engine types, hence higher cost of ownership for those of us that can only afford 2nd hand out of warranty vehicles

Cost of real pure grape juice versus concentrate – how to choose?

I've successfully made red wine from Lidl red grape juice at low cost. However, we only get that when Lidl decide the red grape juice is cheap enough for them to stock. So, bad year, no red grape juice

    Beginner cider advice

Have you seen how many apples he has available? Be prepared to either top the quantity up or take some extra containers if he has more. I don't know how he will scrat & press, but I pulp my apples in a food processor (wedding present from 30 years ago that now has a 2nd life) Put the pulp in an...

    Other games

Me & SWMBO do squardle. We found it's easy on Monday & gets more difficult as you go through the week. Then if you finish it, there is an express 3*3 version.

    Ford Focus replacement

If you're happy with it then I vote keep it until it's uneconomic to repair/run. Especially if you have more than 1 car in the household.

    Frozen Fruit

You shouldn't need to rack more than twice max & you should top the demijohn up after racking. And degassing is only really used for wine kits that are done in weeks and still contain a lot of dissolved co2. You won't need to Degass if you're looking at keeping it in demijohns for months to...

    Monitoring leccy usage

I have a solis inverter & 2*5Kwh pylontech batteries. @MashBag If you have gas for heating/cooking, you don't get ROI, but were electric only with storage heaters and young adults at home (cooking power is as much as heating power when averaged over the year) when the energy crisis started...

    Monitoring leccy usage

Yep but it still doesn't make sense not to have them when you are all electric & cover your house in panels. (I have 10kwh batteries & 6kw inverter) The main thing is not to let the charge drop too low, mine is set to 20% minimum. But you should also only charge to 90% to stop overcharging...

    Monitoring leccy usage

Not sure about payback if you just had batteries, as you will also need an inverter rated high enough for your power use. I have panels & batteries & economy 7. Batteries work as panels charge them about 2/3 of the year & I charge them on economy 7 in the winter. I don't think the cost of them...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Not a good year for our museum hops. When they were ready it was too wet to harvest, and when the rain finally stopped, it was too late & they've gone brown and past it. So we haven't even bothered to cut them down 🙁

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Did the juice list potassium sorbate as an ingredient? That's a preservative that will kill off any yeast you try to use for the fermentation.

    Cider from fresh fruit

I find cider works ok if you have a mix of different kinds of apples & a few crab apples too. Also I use a food processor to pulp them before pressing. Those blades in a bucket that you connect to a power drill look too dangerous & not particularly effective to me. Note the maximum I've done...

Small beer: Study calls on government to shrink pints

I will continue to bottle my beer in whatever sized bottles I can find. To be honest what I produce is better (not strictly true, but I brew to my personal tastes & don't have to please everyone else) than most of the beers I've encountered at beer festivals (which I no longer frequent to avoid...

    One for the gardeners
