    Homebrew expectations vs. commercial beer

Sure is, I’m not criticizing Punk IPA, my dislike is a personal opinion.

    Homebrew expectations vs. commercial beer

Yep you’re right, offen the least worse, but we all have different tastes.

    Time to Dry Hop

I put the dry hops in the primary FV at the end of fermentation for two days, one of which is cold crashing. I then used to siphon into another bucket before bottling. There’s a long debate on whether it’s necessary for a secondary fermentation, I’ve never bothered.

    Homebrew expectations vs. commercial beer

Commercial beers vary dramatically. It is subjective, we don't all hold the same opinions on what a decent commercial brew is either. As I’m an IPA fan, I recently tried a BrewDog Punk IPA having not had one for many years, I thought it was utterly foul and poured it down the sink. Others think...

Brewday ball ache. Finished Union Jack IPA, started at 6am, finished cleaning at 1pm. All went to plan but It’s a long day isn’t it. I wonder if you can rent a brewer these days. wink...

Liquid versus dry yeast fermentation time

Maybe a daft question but as a general rule of thumb does liquid yeast take longer to ferment than dry ? I’ve just started experimenting using liquid yeast after using dry for years. With the dry stuff I used mostly US05, S04, BRY97, Nottingham and found I would reach FG within a week, I would...

    Curry...!!

I highly recommend Bit Spicy for hand roasted and blended spices. Been using them for ages. You make your own base gravy then use the spices, adding meat or veg. Some unusual blends and really good indeed.

Struggling to get my head around the water chemistry.

I agree with Clint, @strange-steve calculator (i'll dig out the link and post) works really well, i've used it for the 1st time recently and the beer is just so much better. I also started with Tesco Ashbeck water rather than my local Portsmouth water because it's a far better starting canvas to...

    What did you brew today?

D Did you get an answer ? I have the same question. I've made a 1.5L starter for the 1st time, gave it 24 hours on the stir plate, simply because white labs suggest 12-18 hours for a 1L starter.....

    What did you brew today?

Transferred from FV to Keg this weekend, I tried a little sample. I'm quite astonished at the difference in mouthfeel compared to my usual brews, so much more pleasant, softer, smoother and balanced, even before any conditioning or carbonation time. Plus I tried the short and cool Dry Hop...

    Free yeast

I have 6 packs of CML US Pale Ale yeast, best before Jan 2021. I've been planning my next brews, i'll be using liquid yeast for the forseeable future so I don't think I will use them. I have a few US05's and SO4's as backup if needed, so happy to send all six in one go for free. Please PM me...

    Help needed! Carbonation/priming question

Some will say one isn’t enough, but two is too many, I would use one but give it a full two weeks in the warm to carbonate.
