    Nitros 70/30

Oh my word! That Porter in the BBC film looked good! I've no idea what most of this thread is about it whizzed right over my head (except for the partial pressures). Some day, I'd like to try whatever it is you're describing here!

OK. I imagine though, in my position of ignorance, that I'd probably do the same. I imagine it's a lot quicker to set up a pot than AIO, less cleaning, less fuss. Unless of course they're the same size. If your AIO is electric and you have a gas cooker, it gives a choice. Of course I've...

Started first brew today..... made a ****oo

You mean the one after the next? The next is already planned. That's actually a good idea. But I also need to plan some kit purchases.

Ok, Rwilts. So I just carry on as before. Same temperature but expecting to see nothing happening? That's going to be a bit difficult.

Point taken Tanglefoot. MashBag, I don't have an AIO.

Well, checked it this morning and level in the airloch hasn't moved,so about 14 hours with no activity. Why would the instructions day to leave it fermenting for at least 10 days? It did seem a long time.

Bit puzzled now. Hops went in earlier and since then, fermentation seems to have stopped. The airlock levelled out when I put the hops in as expected, and it's still level both sides now, so there's no pressure coming out of the bucket. I took a sample of wort when I put hops in. It smelled a...

Foxy, interesting. Maybe blackbirds would eat it? Or Dunnocks? Or put in a string bag, maybe goldfinches. Worth a try. The wood pigeons will eat it I'm sure. Mind you, if I could grind it into flour it'd be tempted to get Mrs K baking with it.

I bloody looked at TMM! The only bags they had were much bigger. I've just looked again, and if you search for 'bag', that bag doesn't appear in the list - using your link, I could see the cost, so with my search results, I ordered them in cost order and it's not there. Anyway, thanks for...

Sandimas, thanks. 15L seemed about right Very educational until I read Tanglefoots post. Yep, safety margin required, I dislike cleaning the cooker at the best of times. Things I read have convinced me to avoid wort boiling over. I am prone to letting things boil over. Tanglefoot & Sadfield...

Thanks Sandimas. I'll read & digest your post later, I SHOULD really be getting on with dinner.

HA! Thanks 2stage. I hadn't come across that shop before, they have a small straining bag @£6 which would probably do, and others too. I'll browse the shop later. (cooking dinner atm - or so her indoors thinks)

So, if I went ahead with this size of brew, is it possible to do this BIAB? The only bags I've seen (but have not really looked) have been for larger AIO size vessels ie 30L or thereabouts. Also, is it feasible to do this without a bag, by straining or filtering out the grain? Excuse my...

For a minute there I thought you were baking muffins or something for your dog! Talk about pampered!

Yes, the bin is an option, but it's a viable food either for soil or animals so ecologically is a shame not to at least try to reuse/recycle it.

That's interesting BNB there's a lot of activity in the first 4 days. I don't have anything that fancy (as your pill) but it's still bubbling. Not as vigorous as the first couple of days but quite steady, though I think it has slowed down in the last 24 hours. Its also not as pungent and smells...

Thanks Klaus I got a small bag of priming sugar the other day so I'm sorted with that when the time comes.

I did hear it could be made into dog biscuits. We don't have a dog but neighbours do and there is also a RNIB dog training school. Anybody tried it?

OMG it sounds like getting rid of the grain is a nightmare in the making. We don't have chickens and don't want them, or ducks, rats or squirrels. As for swapping it for manure, the stable is about 100 yards away and he can't give it away. He pays to have it taken away. The first time I wanted...
