    Dorset home-brewers grain group buy

Ok - on a practical level I will speak to Crisp to see if you could use our account (if you wish) to get things going. If you created your own account, I know that the prices are slightly dearer in your region (Crisp's southern region) Also, at some point you could take a copy of our ordering...

    Dorset home-brewers grain group buy

I think that it is a certain as Christmas that malt prices will rise significantly next year - hence it's a great time to get a Dorset Group going or someone hires a van and collects for your local group from us - it will add to the cost but it may still be cheaper if we can build a big enough...

    Krausen

We all seem to use Krausen for the stuff on the top of the fermenter. Why? Its always struck me as a horrible, strange word. And its meaning is variously given as 'to add newly fermenting wort...' or 'fermenting wort' (merriam webster).. And from German..'to add herbs to brewing beer...

    CML Timothy Taylor.

The longer you mash for the more sugars you will release - i.e. your mash efficiency will be higher. Having said that most sugars are released early in the mash Why reduce the time? The other factor is temperature - higher temperatures produce more complex sugars Mashing at about 65C will...

We know from other sources that the prices we currently pay are very keen, and so we will keep...

    Back to brewing

Hi Pete The BBE date should be on the front of the sack of malt - the bags we buy usually have a BBE of 18 to 24 months Particularly as it's not been opened, I believe that it should fine.
