    Ubbe or Lutra Kveik

I pitched most of the slurry from my first brew with it. I had made sure it was quite active by feeding it with 100g/1 litre of spraymalt as a starter. It was definitely quite active already at the mid 20’s range. I’d be interested to hear how it goes

    Ubbe or Lutra Kveik

I pitched at 20degC and set the inkbird for 32. It ramped up over a couple of days but was visibly fermenting already at about 16hours post pitch when at 26C

    Ubbe or Lutra Kveik

I have also just kegged some more Ubbe fermented beer. Pilsner Malt and Munich. Columbus for bittering. Late additions of Mosaic and Rakau. OG 1.052 6 days ago. FG 1.005 2 days ago! I cold crashed and kegged today. The fermenter sample tastes good. Has that slight Kveik flavour but not...

    Ubbe or Lutra Kveik

Here’s a picture of the Saaz keg hopped Ubbe fermented beer. It tastes good and has quite a crisp lager like finish to it.

    Ubbe or Lutra Kveik

I just kegged a beer made with a fresh pack of Ubbe. MO 6.5kg. Munich 1kg. FWH Columbus 15g. 1.047 to 1.009 in 4 days. Flocc’d out very well. I cold crashed anyway. Pre keg sample was very very clear and tasted good with a clean bitterness. No particular “Ale” type flavours. Jury is out...

I would be pleased to get the Snub Nose and give it a review. Would be ideal for my brew fridge and then transfer to keg.

    beer gas

South Street in Glasgow.EXPRESS FUELS. They do food grade CO2 and I think beer gas also, as well as butane etc. CO2 was £40 deposit and £18 refill for 15kg or so. I pick up but they might deliver. Phone ‘em!

    Drying yeast at home

My version is nowhere close. More like McEwans export! I did a tour of Strathaven Ales Brewery and asked which yeast they used. Notty in them all, they replied. I’ve used it once and I was happy with it, but for it being a bit neutral in character. Maybe it can be used by others with a bit more...

    Drying yeast at home

Started at 1.050. My fermentation’s can stick at 1.020. A stir usually helps but not this time. I’ve got another brew on fermenting from yeast which I recently cropped, cultured up and dried. Throwing 0.5 kg of GNO in everything I make recently. A steep helps improve any kits too. Innes &...

    Drying yeast at home

Good question. It finished at 1.019. Tastes good. Quite well balanced. I was trying to maximise body so mashed at 68C. I based the malt bill loosely on James Morton’s Export recipe but added 0.5kg of golden naked oats. However, it could have been a yeast quality/ quantity “problem”.

You're stuck in quarantine with only one beer

Cask would be Greenjack Trawler Boys Bottle would be Emersons’s Bookbinder. Both are session strength but very tasty beers.

    Drying yeast at home

I top cropped some White Labs Edinburgh Ale, built a starter with it then dried it. I stored it in the freezer and 4 weeks later just pitched it into another starter of DME. It took two days to show visible signs of activity but looks promising so pitched into some wort; hopefully an Export Ale...

    Geterbrewed?

Yeah, it was definitely just a standard delivery van, nothing light speed.

    Geterbrewed?

My goods arrived today, I’m glad to say. They were well packaged by GEB. The parcel force tracker link didn’t ever work.

    Geterbrewed?

I’m in a similar situation. I ordered from GEB last weekend. It was picked up by PF yesterday. Nothing on the PF tracking link as of yet. I ordered a steam condenser from Germany recently and DHL delivered it within 4 days.

Thanks for the above advice. I’ll post an update on my progress in due course

    Kveik

Is that with Voss though? The Hornindal strain doesn’t ferment out as quickly as the Voss, from what I’ve read.

    Kveik

From what I’ve read it does. Apparently, the original blend gives much more yeast derived flavour in the beer. I’ve only tried the commercial isolate. Not too much of the caramel/ orange flavours, so far. I think it produces a very clean finish though; still experimenting!
