In larger batches efficiency can decrease if your mash is too dense and you don't have sufficient sparge water to flush out sugars. However with a 10-15L batch, if you are stirring periodically and squeeze the bag (BIAB) then you should get some consistency.
Another thought: have these batches...
This looks to be along similar lines to a batch I did last week, though I've added Northern Brewer and challenger to get some cedar/pine undertones. It could be a complete flop, but it's an experiment!
2kg pilsner
2kg UK pale
500g Vienna
500g wheat
200g medium crystal (175Ebc)
40g dark crystal...
Well done on your first AG brew!
Time to reflect and make a list while it's still fresh in your mind of what went well, what could be improved.
You have a reasonable gravity wort and it's fermenting, so it'll make beer anyway.
Quite possibly the last glass from my keg of "Out in the fields" Saison. Crystal clear, dry, smooth and very drinkable at 7%. I'm surprised it lasted until now
I have done a couple of brews with Voss, the first had a very fast fermentation done in 2.5 days. The second took 6 days to ferment out. What I have read and been informed of is that Kveik like higher gravity - above 1.050 and loves higher temperatures. I know there is an optimum temperature...
That certainly looks like a wild yeast pellicle from photos I've seen of them. You might be onto something good or it may turn sour or funky after a while. You won't know until later...
Single Infusion mash is a compromise. However with modern malts it's not always a big deal as they're modified to cut out things like protein rests that used to be required many moons ago.
If you know what you're doing with multiple rests you will probably have a higher chance of producing...
After a lack luste performance from Harry Kane & Co, time to pin my hopes on something more reliable.
This solid West Indian Porter from @dave_77 is a treat for the taste buds.
A deceptive pour with little obvious carbonation that builds up to leave a medium tan head.
Served around 14 degrees...
