I think it is worth looking at Grainfather again - the G40 is a very different beast from the G30, and although expensive, I am very happy with mine. It is not perfect (of course) but is light years ahead of the Brewzilla 3.1 I had before.

I agree, the yeast is key. Harvey's has a very distinctive flavour, which the MM recipe kit does not match (although I have not tried it with Ringwood yeast). Do they still do any bottle conditioned beer that could be used to build a starter?

I have similar thermowells on my Keg King snub nose fermenters. I just put the probe in the thermowell as it is - it is a loose fit but seems to work perfectly.
