    What did you brew today?

Brewed a Belgian Golden Strong (or something along those lines, inspired by La Chouffe) last night: 5kg Pilsner Malt 500g Munich 150g Dextrose Mashed at 66c for about 90mins (longer than I originally planned) 60min boil with 27IBU from: 50g Styrian Goldings Celia - 60min 25g Saaz - 15min 20g...

Purging bottles with co2 prior to filling from the keg

I've been filling with a cheap plastic pluto gun, and a piece of 5/16" beer line pushed into the outlet which works quite well (no purge though). I'm now wondering if I can adapt that setup with a silicone stopper, and perhaps run an additional 3/16" line through the stopper which can be...

    Cheapa neipa ?

I started fermenting in a corny keg after having issues with oxidation, works fine but I've not yet figured out the best low oxygen method to dry hop. Worth a try if you have a spare keg, I trimmed the dip tube about an inch to reduce trub during transfer.

    Bottling question

I've used prosecco bottles (which works fine other than requiring more expensive 29mm caps), but as previously mentioned regular wine bottles probably isn't a good idea.

    The Dummies' Guide to Brewzilla

Nice guide! Personally I wouldn't put wort through the chiller, any water left in mine after cleaning ends up coming out a rusty brown colour the next brewday.

    Murky beer from Robobrew

As previously suggested I'd be looking for other variables which may have been introduced at the same time as the switch to the Robobrew, for example I've been using CML Voss Kveik recently due to the hot weather, and it doesn't seem to drop clear as readily as other yeasts I've used. Are you...

    Kveik

Yeah likewise, I've been working hard to get my mash Ph on target so this is somewhat counter-intuitive, I guess the alternative is increasing the alkalinity of the finished wort without changing the mash Ph, I guess that would mean adding some chalk? I think this time I'll just reduce my acid...

    Kveik

I'm going to get a pale-ale/IPA on soon with CML voss, and I've read that Kviek can drop the Ph of the final beer more than other yeasts - do folks account for that by e.g aiming for a higher alkalinity than normal when doing water treatment? I'm wondering if I should aim for a slightly higher...

    Grainfather pump filter in Robobrew?

Thanks @Mungri! The hexagon outer measurement on the robobrew is larger (about 22mm) but it may fit if I connect via a short pipe into the 10mm hole inlet to the pump, I'll report back if I get one!

    Grainfather pump filter in Robobrew?

Hi all, I've just noticed New Pump Filter Grainfather - Get Er Brewed and wonder if it would fit in the pump inlet on a Robobrew v3.1? Or alternatively would anyone with a Grainfather be prepared to measure the diameter of the tube that fits from the pump inlet to filter, so I can compare with...

    Gypsum Taste.

You can get single stage filters which fit under your kitchen sink, so it doesn't necessarily need to take much space, I use a similar filter that's inline to my fridge which has a water outlet on it. Before investing in any of that you could try a brew with Tesco ashbeck bottled water, that...

    Sodium percarbonate..

I can confirm this, we have very hard water and I once put a scoop of sodium percarbonate in the dishwasher when cleaning some bottles - they came out with a white powdery residue - a good rinse with star san took it off though. athumb..

    Sodium percarbonate..

I'm in the same boat, not found anywhere with 5kg bags at a reasonable price, I'm also tempted by the 25kg but not got much storage space. Last couple of brews I put a dishwasher tablet in the fv to clean and it did the same job, rinsed well tho.

    Small batch pressure fermenting

You can buy some fizzy drinks in 3l bottles so that would work with a couple of them? More expensive option but you could also ferment in a corny keg?

    Pre-boiled water adjustments

It worked out well @nixhaz - I ended up using half boiled water and half ashbeck, measured Alkalinity was about 30ppm (my normal tap water is about 260ppm) so much more suitable for the style I was brewing. Mash Ph was a reasonable 5.4 so pretty happy overall!

    Pre-boiled water adjustments

I left it to cool overnight and haven't yet decanted, was planning to do so this later today before brewing, hopefully not too much chalk will have dissolved by then, I'll have to re-test the alkalinity I guess? I tested the calcium with a Salifert Ca kit and get about 130ppm for plain tap...

    Pre-boiled water adjustments

Hi all, Given the current state of lockdown I'm experimenting with pre-boiling as a way to reduce the alkalinity of my high-alkalinity (around 260ppm) water. Yesterday I boiled about 16l for 30mins with quarter of a campden tablet and half a teaspoon of gypsum, and measuring today with a...

Busy times from home brew shops

I ordered some stuff from https://homebrewoutlet.co.uk/ last week and it arrived in 2 days, looks to still be taking orders - pretty happy given the long wait I had with some other retailers recently.

    Softening Water

Interesting, thanks - putting my numbers in there results in a much higher CRS adjustment than I've ever used so far (36ml for the bitter profile), and also much larger adjustment with salts.

    Softening Water

Oh I see, apologies! For 30l tap water treated with 15ml CRS I get about 110ppm Sulphate and 155ppm Chloride - I thought I read somewhere to try to keep each below 100 but perhaps I could go higher?
