    Coffee

Yes I would go for a hand grinder but make sure it is a burr grinder. Something like the Rhino Hand Coffee Grinder - Cafedirect Shop A burr grinder gives you the best even grind possible. Some of the little cheap electric machines just mash and cut the bean rather than grind. For a home machine...

    Coffee

Hi @strange-steve a friend of mine has a great book out that I would recommend The Coffee Dictionary: An A-Z of Coffee, from Growing & Roasting to Brewing & Tasting Book by Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood . also Check out Hasbean for coffee and Coffee Hit - Best range of coffee gear on the planet...

    Capping glass bottles

I put the bottle on a towel to stop it from sliding across the work bench whilst you cap it. It should definitely look the same as a crown cap, capped commercially though.

Actually don’t worry I just looked it up myself. I see where I was wrong. Fairly simple science. Still Interesting to know.

Care to elaborate? 😉 As I said In my remark, I am clearly wrong. Maybe someone could explain it a bit?

It shouldn’t do. A hydrometer measures sugar ratio in a liquid. I am not sure that surface tension plays too much of a part. Though I might be wrong.

    Interesting stoneware beer barrel

I would imagine that it would withstand low carb ales. Having a quick look around the web though it looks like this type of ceramic/pottery keg was mainly used for spirits etc. Maybe Gin, port, whisky. Looks as though people used them as novelty decanters.

    Interesting stoneware beer barrel

Looks fantastic. Here is a link to some info on the pottery I live in Bath so this old pottery would have been just up the road 🤣

    carbonation drops

The cornies do look fantastic. I am not sure I can run to the price of one right now, but I just remembered the 5litre kegs by Dark Farm. How could I forget. Legendary bit of kit. I think I will have to pick one up at some point to replace my cheap plastic keg. Bottle a few, keg the rest. Just...

    carbonation drops

I like to bottle. I am often sharing my ale amongst family and friends. I have thought about getting a couple of 5 litre growler set ups, but I am not sure about the quality. They often cost about £100 or so from Amazon—- Rockyin 5L Mini Stainless Steel Keg with Faucet Pressurized Home Brewing...

    carbonation drops

There you go then. I walked boldly into that trial of carb drops without even knowing anything about them 🤣 I saw them going cheap at my local brew shop and thought, well they will do. Didn’t even read the package.

    carbonation drops

This is the place for questions mate. No need to be sorry. If I may way in on the carbonation drop discussion here? I have just used them for the first time in my last brew and never will I use them again. They did the job very well indeed. Nice level of carb for my IPA. However, I noticed that...

It sounds like the most likely reason. As I say, I would not use washing up liquid on anything other than my regular dishes. And this is the reason..... This photo is of my Raven Porter. Poured straight from the Keg 🍻

    Yeast

Hello, This info would help. How long did you wait to see if the yeast is working? Did you make a starter? What temperature are you fermenting at?

Which movie(s) have you watched recently?

I love Film but I think that I enjoy series more these days. Particularly - Umbrella Academy: A fantastically clever and well acted take on the superhero storyline. Great soundtrack too. Netflix. To be honest I can list so many great series that I have watched recently, from Vikings, to Pose, to...

    Surfingobo’s brew day’s

Ha sorry, I miss understood, I thought you where after the calculation. 😅 If you change your brew pot size from 20litres to say 14litres in the recipe editor, then the app will ask if you want to scale the recipe? I think this is as close as it gets. I have found that it is not as accurate as...

    Surfingobo’s brew day’s

Hi, from not so sunny Somerset (Bath) To adjust a recipe malt weight. It’s weight X by desired volume, divided by original volume. For instance- 4.367kg X 20 litres divided by 21litres = 4.159. So 20 litre was my desired volume. 21 litre was the recipes original volume. I have found that this...
