    Yeast taste

Assuming the same kit, I have had a couple of Festival Pilgrims Hope this week. Bottled 9/2. They were perfectly clear. Hops still a little lively for me but expect another couple of months will sort that out. 10 to 14 days in fv, batch primed, bottled and in the hall for as long as needed. No...

    New Vine Co wine kits

Another week on and this will be my last tasting of the Vineco Trilogy for some months. I wanted to compare it with a Beaverdale to get another impression of how the new Vineco kits match up. The new Beaverdale Vieux Chateau (6L) is thinner, lighter coloured compared to the 8L Vineco, but not...

    Ali Express again

https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty Much depends on the value. Anything from China tends to come through marked 'appropriately', gift or otherwise. Just beware if you use an express delivery service. I have heard some companies see it as 'added value' opportunity. Never...

    Desktop, Phone or Tablet. [POLL]

I use a laptop when I need the screen size (eg spreadsheets) or for lots of typing. Everything else is done on phone apps or browser. Recently bought my wife a new tablet as she loved her old one for ebooks. It has also come in handy for Video calls to family during lockdown. Like me...

    Which Vaccine? [poll]

Had my first AZ almost two weeks ago, as did my wife. Could just about feel a little sensitivity around the *** site for the next day. My wife was feeling her *** site pain for days but I don't think it was bad. She also claims it is making her go wrinkly and has made her bum fat. I of course...

    Hydrometer how use it?

We're you asking about where to source bottles? Friends, neighbours etc. is ideal. But if all else fails, you can get screwtop bottles of pilsner from Lidl for 80-90p. The stuff inside is not great but not horrible either. Helps keep your mitts off the good homebrewed stuff for a while too.

    New Vine Co wine kits

Another week on and another wine tasting, if anyone is interested. Tonight I put the Vineco Trilogy up against the On The House Shiraz. I wasn't going to comment on the taste difference but did note that the Trilogy tastes much more like a Bordeaux (which it should) when up against a Shiraz...

    Benefits of a 2nd FV?

How would you take further readings once it's bottled without releasing all the co2? :) The ABV will only change a tiny bit in the bottle. I know it's difficult when you are starting out, but if you can get ahead a bit, your beers will benefit from time in the bottle. Typically 2 to 6 months...

    Ireland 0 - 1 Luxembourg

Not from me. All the epl managers complaining or at leat commenting about too many fixtures, tired players. Covid! Let's send all the players from different leagues to mix together. Two Polish players already have covid. One from Leeds Utd. Scandalous. Should have postponed the lot imho.

    New kits from Wilko's

I used to check Wilko regularly as they occasionally used to drop the Woodfordes to £18. Once got some Milestone cheap too. Haven't seen an offer for a long time now.

    New kits from Wilko's

Was going to reply that they do click and collect. Just checked and they now seem to charge £2. Not too much, but why?

    Fermentation Stalled?

Ha. Well done. Might have to try getting on to them. I fear I may be joining a long queue now. :) I should have said 15 points per kg in 23L.

    Fermentation Stalled?

Sounds great. If you took a reading after you added the spray malt you can add it on to the original. Otherwise I think spray malt adds about 15 points per kg. A bit less than sugar. I'll have to check that though. Or someone else will be along with a link. I wonder what was wrong with the...

    Filtering

Yes. And if you are bottle conditioning there is surely always a bit of sediment. So no need to over complicate. If you can get ahead with production and not drink it for a few months, the sediment is usually more compact and less likely to be a problem.

    Home Brew in cold/cool house

13-15 is going to be very restricting. Have you insulated the fv?

    Brewing at room temperature

Really? Is this the new normal?

    Fermentation Stalled?

I would do the small amount of sugar just to be absolutely certain the yeast is ok, then up to you whether to add sugar to up the ABV or bottle straight away. The priming sugar won't make much difference. There are plenty of calculators around for sugar addition.

    New Vine Co wine kits

It's three months on and it's time for another test. Some may think it is pointless comparing a now extinct kit with the current version, others may have the former as a reference point and find it useful. The Kenridge Trilogy has improved into a very nice, smooth, rounded, quite dry wine...

Supply and brewing of Colne Valley Bitter

Thank you very much. I notice that the stock quantities are quite small for a selection I looked at. Not sure whether that's a good thing or bad thing. As long as there is a free delivery option (over £70) that's fine for me. Cheers

    Strange Wine SG behaviour

If its not fizzy then no CO2. Most of it will have gone when you transferred it. It has passed your taste test anyway. If no new bubbles, go ahead and add the stabiliser then wait. The bubbles will fade away over some days. Keep it sealed as much as possible, then after it starts to clear in...
