    The NOT Budget thread

Exactly my thoughts. I was watching the whole thing erupting into screeching chaos and couldn't help but think it was more like a rowdy pub than a group of people who are supposed to be running the country. The irony is, we'd likely be better off handing the running of the country over to the...

    Bargain needs a recipe.

I made marmalade melomel a few years ago, absolutely foul, in hindsight it probably wasn't the best idea as I'm not a fan of marmalade.

Porridge Jim but not as we know it.

I tried the water and Bovril version last night, curiosity got the better of me, not remotely impressed. I wouldn't go as far as to call it disgusting but it wasn't pleasant. I think I'll just stick to the tried and tested 'overnight oats' with milk and honey.

Porridge Jim but not as we know it.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that oats, water and a few teaspoons of Bovril might work very well. But then again, it could be an unspeakable horror, I think I'll let someone else be the guniea pig on that one :laugh8:

    Crossmyloof

Except this time they really are limited, but still, the frenzy is fully justified :laugh8: I'm currently scraping together every penny to get a mighty batch of my favourite hops from them before they're gone forever. Perhaps a little over dramatic but I keep envisioning us all as impossibly...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Blackberry melomel (locally foraged blackberries), it's been in the bottle a little over three years, 8.5% ABV so a little stronger and drier than I tend to brew nowadays but rather nice.

How many litres of home brew have you made 2024

Had a rare stretch of free time these last couple of weeks, just finished the fourth brew in a row to restock my diminished supplies: 60 litres light ale (this has now pretty much become my mainstay, 100% Maris Otter with Summit and Lorien with CML Kveik Hornindal). 10 litres user upper (50%...

Certainly the root of so many problems for me :laugh8:

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Yeh, they're all very artificial tasting, not terrible but not really what I would call 'cider'. They were cheap enough that I got a four pack of each flavour and I'm cheap enough (and/or borderline alcoholic enough :laugh8:) to drink the lot. They're only something like 3.4% ABV though so...

I'm not usually much of a cider guy, but these were on offer in Tesco. Not bad, a bit chemical tasting. Nice enough, not amazing though. A bit sickly, sort of like liquified boiled sweets. Probably the best of the bunch, tastes more like an alcopop that a cider.

    Your First Beer

Same here, I think I was maybe seven or eight years old when I had my first ever beer and it was one of these. Possibly around the same time I had a taste of my dad's homebrew, and so it began...

My almost 1 year old mead had fermented in the bottle

I did 'session strength' all natural mead (pasteurised before bottling) for many years, only in the last few months completely scrapped the idea as it was such a fickle beast. There's only so many times I can walk into my shed to the distinct smell of spilled mead and see a couple of empty...

Gotta love this stuff, it's like mead grew up, developed a bad attitude, had a couple of kids and a messy divorce and now smokes 40 a day and throws garbage at traffic. Pretty good with cola too.

I've got a bottle of the double cask lurking around somewhere, I found it very much the same, it was alright but didn't seem to land squarely in any real direction.

Haven't seen this one in too many places, Tesco had it on offer. Really rather good, the port flavour comes through with a nice complexity, all kinds of subtle dried fruit notes going on there and incredibly smooth.

To quote one of my favourite characters, in one of my favourite scenes, from my all time favourite movie: "It comes in pints? I'm getting one!"

Man Cave, who has one ?

Jean Paul Satre famously said that hell is being trapped in a room with your closest friends. I love my wife and consider her to be my dearest friend, but sometimes I just need to drink beer, play video games, smoke cigars and be an insufferable slob without being around anyone else. Also, my...
