    Rugby World Cup 2023

All sorts of maths being done now looking at the possible outcomes/final rankings after the final pool games... 🙂 I just hope there's some good rugby and no silly cards ruining things...

    Maibock (Helles bock) brewday

Update. A long but steady fermentation, started at 11 degs and ramped temp up slowly from day 10 until gravity flatlined, then a few days at 15 to clean up. A long tail, gravity just kept dropping... Dropped setpoint to 4 degs yesterday for cold crash and added some gelatine at lunchtime today...

They are playing good rugby. Love seeing their passion...

    Single use plastic ban.

Home brewers washing and reusing bottles are unsung eco warriors... wink...

    Single use plastic ban.

Here in NZ they banned 'single use' supermarket plastic shopping bags some years ago. The ones I used to contain rubbish, carry wet swimming gear, dirty rugby boots, and dog waste with. People now buy much thicker plastic bags to do the same. and you know what I've noticed? On windy days the...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

Fiji had a tight win over Georgia, bet Australia had their hopes up. And yes Scotland have locked in their bonus point before half time. They should put all their reserves on to protect players before the Ireland game...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

Interestingly, if Italy somehow beat France they will advance and France will be out (I think)... So a few teams have to everything to play for yet in their remaining games. France v Italy, Japan v Argentina and Ireland v Scotland are crucial matches...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

All Blacks just ran in 96 points against Italy, who scored 17. A big score against a 6N team. Will give them confidence and some good cohesion between combinations, but hard to say what this bodes for playing against teams with better defensive structures - (likely) Ireland in the quarters...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

Oof yeah 40-6 to Wales. Didn't pick that. Agree with your predictions. Think only Scotland can change things if they beat Ireland. Potentially Ireland, South Africa and Scotland could all finish on 14/15 points, depending on bonus points. Some good games to come...

    Superdelic hops - new variety...

And yes I think another week will make a difference. It's been conditioning in a 20 deg brew fridge for 11 days so going ok but still quite early. Pretty sure there is some residual priming sugar sweetness there. Plus I didn't allow for the dry hop additions so my estimation of volume was out...

    Superdelic hops - new variety...

Oh let me know how that recipe goes @Clarence. Quite keen to try it but now I know how dominant it is I'm unsure about the tropical/candy in a typically resiny/piney/citrus style...? I might try a tweaked version with a simplified grain bill and Simcoe, Amarillo and Superdelic hops...

    Superdelic hops - new variety...

Just realised we switched to daylight savings time today, so later is now (it's 5:30pm not 4:30)... 🙂 Yes it's early so conditioning still underway, but wow this hop is really different. Massive candy/bubblegum aromas which gives the impression of a sweet beer, despite the decent bitterness (~...

    Superdelic hops - new variety...

Day 11 of bottle conditioning and did some labeling today. Will test a bottle later...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

Great game. NO cards issued, how refreshing... Likely now that from pools A and B Ireland will meet NZ and France v South Africa in the knock-out quarters. Pool C still a lottery and England will top pool D...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

Big win to England. Seems they can score tries... wink... And bruising game underway between South Africa and Ireland. The ref is being very clear in his instruction and letting things flow. I don't wish harm to anyone, but with the 7-1 reserves ploy I'd like to see some South African backs...

    Bugs in Hops

I just put mine in a 20 litre white bucket and most critters departed/fell to the bottom. Could scoop up cones mostly bug free when it was time to weigh them for the boil...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

Yeah I can't pick that one. On form it's Wales, but Australia are wounded and have everything to play for. Despite recent results they do have some good players that could turn a game. Looking fwd to both matches. On the Dupont injury, mixed reports coming in on the severity/his return, but...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

France running riot over Namibia. Will only see the first half but they're looking impressive... [Edit] Oof 96-nil. But a suspected broken cheekbone to Dupont. That's the risk of playing your best players against the lower ranked teams. Injuries and cards could play a major role in this...

    Rugby World Cup 2023

Yeah I saw the first half before I had to leave for work. Bit scared England will bore their way to the final... 🙂 Game of the round next week will be Wales Australia. I'm not actually sure how that will go...
