    Scottish National Homebrew Competition

Dropped mine off at royal mail on Wednesday morning, tracked 24, but 48 hours later and still not a single update on the tracker, i'm starting to get cynical now that it'll get there.

    The 'Hop Water' Thread

This is really interesting.. Making hop water is something I've been reviewing myself a lot in the past few days, but have yet to actually get on to make a batch. From all the things i've read/watched, they often seem to suggest steeping at 70 degrees to minimise bitterness pickup? is that what...

Pitching rate discrepancies between manufacturers and other calculators

Yeah I know i can harvest dry yeasts.. If I'm building up starters, I may as well go wet again for the range/choice of yeasts and seeing as there isn't that much difference between some wet/dry yeasts in terms of price now. Plus from a process point of view and the way I do things, I think I...

Pitching rate discrepancies between manufacturers and other calculators

Yeah I use brewfather and normally Lallemand yeasts and BF always seems to recommend far more than what Lallemand say they pitching rates should be for any given yeast. I've had recipes where BF says i need 3 or even 4 packets for a 22L batch!! I now generally lean towards the manufacturers...

    Brew Con World Series V

Lol, I feel cheated then as both of my beer submissions scored 34 :laugh8: Tbf though at least they both ended up being judged as per the rules by a pair of judges (during the event!)

    TMM corny kegs

I've just picked up a couple of "used once" kegland corny's from ebay and they look and feel great.. a bit taller than all my other ones which are all recon's from malt miller and home brew company over the years. tbh, weren't particularly impressed with any of the recon kegs which were...

How to repair the black rubber on top of a corny keg?

Just to conclude this thread I started a while back: I have since tried the Armor spray from Amazon and after giving the keg a good blast with a pressure washer, I taped off the holes and applied 2 applications of the spray over a couple of days and worked it into the rubber. After it dried, I...

    Heart of England Homebrew competition

Chuffed with best score to date (40/50) with an American Stout, but didn't get in the medals.. Must have been a tough table!.. I think I would have been on table 1 where oddly all 3 winners on that table were American Amber's

CBC/Meantime/The Malt Miller British IPA Competition

Admiral can give strong orange marmalade taste when used late. I use that in my english IPA's and love the flavor it brings. A great UK hop that one.. Never used Jester/Olicana (yet!)

    Maxi Cooler and Fermenters

You could use an SSR but it can be even easier than that for a single FV with an inkbird: 1. Get a bit of mains cable with a mains plug on one end 2. Take lid off your maxi 3. Drill hole big enough for mains cable in the back of your maxi 4. Feed mains cable through 5. Locate flex feeding...

    Maxi Cooler and Fermenters

If you are only running 1 FV, then its pretty straight forward to just use the recirculation ports. I've maxi 310 and I basically I opened mine up and put the recirc pump on a dedicated power supply which the Inkbird provides. This allows the compressor to stay on all the time to build up the...

    FG overshoot

For what its worth, my tilt is the same.. generally ok at the start.. variable at the end. I only really use it to track where fermentation is at, and as I'm a geek, I like looking at the charts in brewfather!.. I always pull off a sample at racking time and use a hydrometer to get an accurate...

Solar Panels on New Build Estates

I am personally pro-solar - I do have a decent setup/battery myself. But I do wonder what is going to be the next challenge in 2040/2050 where we have all these solar panels that were mandated to be installed on properties from 2025 onwards, heading to the skip as either they have failed or...

    Four Priests Brewery YouTube channel

Great work over the past year and a very insightful video!.. Loved watching every one of your videos It really does go to show that if you are willing to roll up your sleeves, learn a new skill or two, make a mistake or two, you really can build a fully functioning brewery selling to the public...

    Solar panels

Yeah i'm not so optimistic on prices going back down.. I think the ~40p/kwh is here to stay.. Whilst we will bring on new power sources over the next few years, our own demand for electricity is soaring and will continue to as we all transition to EV's (and induction and electric based heat...

    Solar panels

Also, if you are looking at 6 panels, that must only equate to around 2.5kw at peak generation in the perfect conditions? Personally for what its worth, I think to make solar work you do need a good number of panels + battery as otherwise you'll always be pulling from the grid when you have...

    Brew Con World Series V

Feedback is really detailed so really happy with the effort the judges went to and some nice pointers on how the judges think the recipe should be tweaked to score better. They both said that both submissions were good beers and seemingly liked them overall. Hopefully I can look to dial in the...

    Brew Con World Series V

So anyone else in the first 3 categories that have their feedback sheets? both of my beers were in the 2 category and I still only have scores. Just trying to work out what was 'uploaded'
