    Monitoring leccy usage

Or use something like this I have an old one for a time when I was looking to get an idea of the costs of running things around the house to see what we needed to economise on. They can be programmed with your tariff and are reasonably accurate.

My beer isn't fizzy enough! Forced carbonation issues

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing that, the problem is having to keep everything "cool" for a few weeks. I have very limited cold areas and live in a hot place so was hoping to carbonate for a week or two then bottle with virtually no fermentables in the beer with which turn it sour. I...

My beer isn't fizzy enough! Forced carbonation issues

Hi, I was hoping to hijack this discussion as I have a similar set of circumstances/questions though more about bottling and CO2 content. I have just finished a Mangrove Jack Cider. It fermented under 3psi once it go going and it seems OK (slight vinegary smell but I hope that matures out)...

    Advice on modding a fridge/freezer

That does sound like a good idea. I am looking at 60x60cm chest freezers cause I need 2 rather than a single large one. I just need to get the inner dimensions before negotiating a price for 2nd hand. I use an Apollo 30L snub nose fermenter so 45x45 by 70cm deep. Not sure what a standard 60x60cm...

    Advice on modding a fridge/freezer

I have looked and agree that most fridges have a drain hole which would be OK. I was not specific enough in my first post. I really plan to use a chest freezer due to the thing being the best size for my install area. I have a good working knowledge of how refrigeration works, but a lack of...

    Advice on modding a fridge/freezer

Hi, I plan on starting to use a fridge/chest freezer for fermenting/carbonating and was wondering if anyone has advice on how best to get an ink-bird thermocouple into the cabinet without breaking anything? I assume the door will have the least chance of tubes etc running through it and could...

    Trying a Kveik

I just tried my first and last Kveik. I did a Simply lager kit with 1kg DME. I followed the instructions to hydrate the Voss packet and pitched it into my fermenter at about 23C. I had the temperature set to warm up to 28C and left it at 7pm last night I could see some foaming around 11pm. By...

How do I close these pipe clips

My next beer will be an IPA or lager of some type (mexican or simply). I have to keep the filled bottles at fermenting temperature for 2 weeks otherwise they turn quite vinegary. I do normally bottle ferment ales but again if I can reduce the amount of cooling I need by force fermenting then...

How do I close these pipe clips

I have done that in the past. Left it a day at 15C then put it on its side and rolled it, leave and repeat. I was using 22psi. I thought that the beer seemed quite harsh though, not over carbonated (probably a bit low) but a rough sort of taste/feel that I didn't get when using priming sugar...

How do I close these pipe clips

Well this thread has moved on. First thanks to everyone for posting. Second, I am trying to force carbonate at around 15C (it's hot here and I have no room for a fridge). I am hoping it will get done quicker with the stone and I like the idea that small bubbles passing through the beer may be...

How do I close these pipe clips

How do I close these pipe clips

Hi all, I just received a Kegland gas diffuser with 2 pipe clips in the kit. Has anyone used these before? If so how do I clamp them on the pipe? Are they single use? Thanks.

The 'Recommend me a TV series' thread

A very good series Gomorrah. Not sure about it beating the Sopranos though. They are quite different with Gomorrah being much grittier.

The 'Recommend me a TV series' thread

I just finished Fallout, that was pretty good. Quite gory but a good show. Also finished A Man in Full this morning, it is OK, quite a critic on the American banking/corporate setup but even more so on the Justice/legal system. Funny in places. cringeworthy in others (all planned) and some over...

St Peters Honey Porter Kit Additional Hops

That sounds interesting, what sort of quantities of ground or fresh ginger would have an effect on 23L?

St Peters Honey Porter Kit Additional Hops

Hi All, I've just finished a St Peters Honey Porter kit and am not impressed by the fake sweet taste (supposedly honey). I have read (after buy 2 kits) that it does have this unpleasant taste so would like to know if anyone can recommend a hop for dry hopping that might help to offset the too...

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

Hi all, I finally got my pressure fermenter going well and decided to filter the (carbonated) beer before bottling. After a few beer fountains I managed to get a very pale looking "lager" to sit quietly after removing the counter pressure filler! I felt quite proud though also quite damp after...

Sound advice, I will try that. Thanks.

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

Well I can't cool the bottles much before filling but I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the advice.

    Pressurised Fermentation practical use

Being a nube to this I was trying to get the CO2 to keep going without topping up from the cylinder. I imagine the D rest is not too necessary if fermenting at 20C?
