    Elderberry ‘Porter’ Advice

Hello good people, are there any experts out there in the field of dark beers that would like to lend an opinion on this recipe? 😊

    Where to buy bottles from

Swing tops are much better for a full batch IMHO, but if I’m giving some away I’ll put a few in with my custom crowns so I don’t have to worry about them not coming back! I think if I was to regularly bottle full batches though, I would crown and buy a good bench capper. I can easily accumulate...

    Help with basic Lager please

I haven’t bottled a lager so couldn’t comment on lager yeast viability post cold-crash, I think I’ve read that there will still be sufficient yeast to bottle condition ale, lager yeast may not behave quite the same, they may have been stressed by the sudden temperature change, I don’t know. It...

    Help with basic Lager please

I’ve not heard of that, apparently unflavoured gelatine from the supermarket works well too. I may invest in a 0.5 micron filter one day, I can dream..!

    Help with basic Lager please

Yeah, I was impatient this time, I was happy it was done after 3-4 days at 18c so harvested the yeast, racked to the BBT (modified corny) and crashed it straight down to 0.5c on Monday. Planning to rack to the serving keg this afternoon. Next time I may try some vegan finings, I normally have no...

    Elderberry ‘Porter’ Advice

Hi all, I’m planning to brew my next beer to use the elderberries and first gold hops from my garden. I’m also trying to only use what malt I have left in the house, so although it may not be a true Porter as such, I’m aiming for something in that ball park. I don’t have a lot of experience...

    Help with basic Lager please

Ah, I see! I followed this advice this time around: https://beerandbrewing.com/how-to-stop-worrying-and-lager/?utm_source=drip&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=CBB+09.15.20+EDIT&utm_content=Stop+Worrying+%26+Lager It looks like at the end of this it is fully conditioned, but will probably benefit...

    Help with basic Lager please

Ah ok, what times and temperatures did you have it in the FV?

    Where to buy bottles from

Sorry to jump in, but does anybody know if the swing mechanism, or more specifically the white porcelain cap, can be bought separately? Following a shelf malfunction I had a few of these bounce off the brewery floor, it was only when i came to use them I found the little nubbin inside had broken...

    Help with basic Lager please

I don’t often bottle, and haven’t a lager, but yes, I would suggest a week or two at cool room temperature (~18c) then chill to serve. They should continue to condition further in bottle, but don’t think they need to be held cold as any off flavours thrown by the yeast would have happened in the...

    Help with basic Lager please

After 5 years trying to get a really clean lager, my latest batch of helles is looking to be the best so far. I would suggest mashing at the low end for at least an hour, lagers should usually be light bodied and my setup usually favours going fuller if I’m not careful. If you have good...

    Inventory Management

Thats what I do, but it would be more convenient to add it at the correct %alpha when I add to the inventory as I’m unboxing a delivery and not have to check again when I’m building a recipe. And, of course, when I tried the previous suggestion last night, I noticed I hadn’t removed the last...

    Inventory Management

Ah, thanks @Sadfield did not know that. Feels like a workaround changing the default values, there should be the ability to specify %alpha when adding to the inventory in its own tab. Useful if you have a number of batches of the same variety. Just nit picking tho!

    Inventory Management

I use BeerSmith (and occasionally double check in case I forget to remove a recipe from inventory!) but wish there was a way of saving %alpha of hops when I add them. I have to double check on the pack in the freezer when I add them to a recipe.

    What did you brew today?

I stand corrected, its two stacks of two 2x14mm magnets. Just tested and it reliably stirs water >40mm distance! 😲

    What did you brew today?

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised too! 😆 From memory I think I used two stacks of three coin shaped neodymium magnets I had leftover from some other project. I actually had originally put more on when I built it but it was pulling the bar down too tightly it was slowing itself down!

    What did you brew today?

Brewed up a Munich Helles today. I now have three serving kegs running so I have the luxury of time to play this one by the book. I didn't have enough Pilsner malt as I used a portion earlier for an impromptu Raspberry Wheat, so added 1kg of MO to 3.5kg Pils and 100g Munich. I was also short on...

    Oxygen Tank

Here's my setup. The ss stone wand from Brewbuilder is great, I use it to swirl the wort while oxygenating then pitch in the yeast in so it gets stired up.
