    Pump that wort

You don't need a pump at all. There's really no need to recirculate the mash - it doesn't make your beer better. For me the process is: Heat water, stir grains in to water, leave it for 30-120 minutes. Normally at the end of the mash I'll slowly run out 2-4 litres and gently put it back on the...

    Your day off.

Sorry @Chippy_Tea but that picture is very much fake ragebait from social media. I don't think it's even slightly news or discussion worthy.

    1st Ever infection,, saveable ?

Looks like a Brett pellicle. As long as there’s not mould growing on it (colourful growth) then it’s usually safe to drink. The question is how it will taste!

    Flow control ball lock disconnects

Sort of. I have the steel flow control disconnects and find they work really well without having to adjust lines… but I do have them on a short length of 3/16” line which definitely helps.

    Football Season 2023.

I think I did pretty well on this. Man Utd and Brentford were a lot worse than I expected, meanwhile Wolves were considerably better (although the last two months were more the Wolves I expected). Will be interesting next season to see if the promoted teams do better next season than this...

These Ales of Wonder - 12th October 2024

Commercially a lot of breweries have moved away from the description of 'bitter' and are instead called 'Amber Ale'. Off the top of my head I think these have all changed over the last 10 years, and there will be plenty more. Shepheard Neame's Spitfire Marston's Pedigree Well's Bombardier

    XL Bully

The problem is dogs as a fashion accessory, exacerbated by this being a new 'breed' that isn't genetically distinct yet. People want the latest fashion dog, but there's a limited supply from breeders with a good reputation, and because of their popularity there's a long waiting list for very...

LAB Open 2024 - Fesitval & BOS Sunday 19 May

Scores are all up. Scanned judging sheets should be tomorrow evening. Would have liked to get them up tonight, but it's been an intense weekend! As a side note, if you score lower than expected please don't be dismayed. The quality keeps going up and judges have adjusted accordingly. Above 35...

LAB Open 2024 - Fesitval & BOS Sunday 19 May

Thanks @MartinHaworth, you’re a star for doing so much judging, we really wouldn’t have got through it all without you!

    Football Season 2023.

I’m actually fine with that practice. The problem for me is that it takes too long to draw the lines and make a decision with VAR, and then there's the subjectivity of which video frame you use (I think they now use the first frame where the passer makes contact with the ball). If you're having...

    Dump the cold break?

I crush the tablets up and then weigh out what I need along with yeast nutrient and hop additions.

    Dump the cold break?

For ease on the brew day I tend to do the same - everything goes in to the fermenter, I let it settle and then dump off about 2 litres of trub before pitching yeast. The problem here is the fining overdose is attracting protein out of the wort beyond what is required for clear beer. It’ll...

    Football Season 2023.

I actually think they’ve got to a good place with VAR now. Look for a reason the referee’s decision is right, and only overturn it when they’ve really messed it up. My main issue is how long it takes to make a decision about offside. Automated offside will help in that regard, but I also think...

    Dump the cold break?

This looks very much like an overdose of protafloc/whirfloc. I've attached Murphy's information sheet about Protafloc, and you can see on the second page there's a picture showing what happens when you double the optimum dose. A protafloc tablet is 2.5g, and that doses 100 litres. Here's...

If you're worried about being tracked you probably shouldn't be posting stuff on an internet forum.

    Football Season 2023.

As a Crystal Palace supporter I’d like to lobby for the season to continue for another 38 games…
