The London Pride / ESB partigyle rabbit hole

ESB Comparison Mine is on the left; the real thing on the right. Colour - I should have used identical glasses, but very close to my eye. Fuller's is maybe fractionally redder and brighter. Carbonation & Mouthfeel - Surprisingly not much difference in carbonation. Fuller's has a bit more but...

The London Pride / ESB partigyle rabbit hole

It's as in the picture above, with the lid ajar but the fridge door is shut. Several reasons why only 24hrs: - I calculate there are only about 30 fermentable gravity points in that brew - 24hrs since pitching and it's already munched through 24 of them! Like I said, this strain seems fast...

The London Pride / ESB partigyle rabbit hole

They're both kegged now, here's where we ended up: ESB: Packaged 6.0L OG 1.056 FG 1.010 6.0% ABV ; 81% AA London Pride: Packaged 9.0L OG 1.046 FG 1.010 4.7% ABV ; 78% AA For comparison Wyeast say 67-71% AA for Wyeast 1968! The more I use it the more I'll get a feel for how it behaves in my...

AG#131 Hurricane Porter Up early this morning after an overnight mash to brew my house Porter. Also first test drive with an upgraded pump. 6 different malts in there I've upgraded my mash re-circ pump to something (hopefully!) more robust Brew on! All done! 15L tap water, 1.25ml...

The London Pride / ESB partigyle rabbit hole

I had a bottle of Golden Pride the other day actually, very nice. From memory I thought it had an ESB / 1845 kind of vibe, which would make sense if they're all using the same yeast if not the same grist (and possibly hops too). It crossed my mind to wonder whether it was also made via...

The London Pride / ESB partigyle rabbit hole

Yep, agreed. For me I don't tend to make strong beers like this but if one was then I agree, it would absolutely make sense. I've actually done this twice in the past: - The last time I made a Baltic Porter (though the resulting small beer didn't work out that time) - Early in my brewing...

The London Pride / ESB partigyle rabbit hole

Well my normal AIO BIAB full-volume no-sparge short-boil homebrew process is already pretty slick these days. So I suppose a second boil is more of a significant percentage extra time spent. IF you were doing 3V and sparging and already having a long regular brew day then maybe partigyling...

The London Pride / ESB partigyle rabbit hole

Hmm... Well, never say never... I think the main issue would be getting a whole free day to do it, in this case I had some leave to burn so it worked out ok. First step is to see how these beers turn out. In the short term I think I'd be inclined to re-brew using my normal process and see what...

The London Pride / ESB partigyle rabbit hole

I finally brewed it! Test Batch Not a partigyle but a few weeks ago I made a London Pride-ish clone-ish beer using my normal single infusion and short boil process. I have this on tap now and I'm pleased with the result. I haven't done a back to back comparison and it's not expected to be a...

    February Dark beer competition

66% AA is pretty good for that strain given 20% of your grist is, I would argue, essentially unfermentable. From my experience of brewing comparable dark beers of similar strength, I'd expect a FG similar to yours, maybe even a touch higher around 1.018-1.021. I've had this argument on here...

    matt76's Brewdays

AG#130 London Pride / ESB Partigyle It's been a while in the planning (discussed in depth here) but I finally got round to brewing this earlier this week. For the uneducated, partigyling is basically boiling the first and second runnings seperately, then blending them to make two or more...

    PilgrimHudds Brewdays

Best get stuck into "Foamy February" to clear out the backlog 😂 To be fair when I used to bottle I generally used to have quite range of beers in stock, whereas nowadays with kegs the most I can have on at any one time is 3 (because apparently I have enough fridges and don't need any more!) Oh...

It's impressive that you won silver 🥈👏👍 , more impressive still that you still have beers left that you brewed in October! 😁

AG#129 London Bitter I've been discussing in another thread about doing a partigyle clone of Fuller's London Pride & ESB - this isn't it, but rather it's a way of building a big yeast starter for the pitch rates I want. The recipe is similar to London Pride except I couldn't get any Northdown...
