Brewfather IBU anomaly Gamma Ray Clone

Yes thanks, I didn’t realise dry hopping increased the bitterness or perceived bitterness. My latest beer was dry hopped heavily and it is quite bitter but I thought it was just from hops I added in to the boil. Some of these hazy NEIPA that are dry hopped massively aren’t bitter at all...

First I’ve heard that dry hop gives IBUs. Not saying it doesn’t, just never heard that.

    Using dextrose in beer recipe

If I use regular sugar or DME would it affect the final gravity - the recipe has it going from 1.072 to 1.011. If I swap out the dextrose for malt extract it changes the FG to 1.015. That’s because extract can’t be attenuated as much as sugar I think? So maybe if I chuck in the table sugar it...

    Using dextrose in beer recipe

I’m planning a double ipa in a forthcoming brew and have a recipe for “Pliny the Elder” which has 340g dextrose in the recipe. I only have about 100g left over from a starter kit which is labelled “priming sugar” intended for chucking in a pressure barrel for carbonation. My question is what...

Should I use both enhancers and finings?

The finings will help improve the clarity of the beer but shouldn’t negatively impact it in any way

    Past its sell by date!

😂 That’s worth more in a museum than as beer. these kits are so cheap just buy a new one from Wilko or the range

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

First try of a kegged New Zealand IPA, a success! Brewed with 200g Dr Rudi and Waimea. Very nice hop aroma and flavour, decently bitter.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Last bottle of my American Pale. A score of 36 in the NAB competition. Nice bitterness but not enough hop flavour or aroma. Dry hopped with 70g cascade but probably need to leave it in longer or use more.

    Norwich Amateur Brewers Homebrew Competition

Much appreciated. Was not expecting feedback to be available on the day itself. My first competition and I’m very happy with the feedback, really useful and interesting. Pleased with my score of 36. Been brewing 5 months so far so hopefully plenty of room for improvement for future brews.

    Help with hop alternatives

Wow that’s incredibly cheap compared to the 100g bags I’ve been buying. Didn’t realise it’s so much cheaper to buy in that volume.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Thanks! I’ll probably go with 1 and see how it goes. I’ve never brewed a bitter so should be a bit of fun. Yes it’s the CAMRA Gold medal one “full English” I’m going to try 🥇😀

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Just looking at the recipe @Hazelwood Brewery, thinking of brewing this for the pressure barrel once it’s empty. Just wondering why you pitched 2 packets of liberty bell, wouldn’t 1 be enough?

    Xmas beer

There’s a current thread on this Christmas beer ideas I just brewed mine last night, it was basically the Christmas ale from the Greg hughes book, recipe is in that thread.

    Pressure Barrel not dispensing

Oh yeah I’ve got 2 cornies in a keezer but I like this pressure barrel for “cask ale style” English ales, it just seems more like a proper cask pint than from a keg.

    Pressure Barrel not dispensing

I really tightened the cap right up, by hand, but really tight. I didn’t do that earlier as I was a bit worried about damaging the rubber seal, but I think maybe it wasn’t tight enough. It seems to be holding pressure well now. I put a capsule charge in it last night and it’s still very...

    Pressure Barrel not dispensing

Ok fair enough. I’ve got about 15 litres in there I reckon so it will last quite a while, maybe 2 or 3 weeks.

    Pressure Barrel not dispensing

At yes that would work but that lets air in and I don’t want to do that. The beer wouldn’t last too long that way.
