    Secret Santa Reviews 2022

My SS bottles went to @dave_77 and @Leon103. Thanks for reviews chaps. I regretted not sending you a bit more info on the beer, so you knew what you were getting into! The Christmas Belgian Dubbel was actually a rum raisin Dubbel recipe that had rum soaked raisins added to the secondary. The rum...

    Secret Santa Reviews 2022

My second Secret Santa beer: an Extra Strong Bitter. Another great beer. Perfect bitterness with a nice malty chewiness and good mouthfeel. It's a substantial beer but there's no high alcohol harshness. A very enjoyable beer - I drank it far too quickly. Thanks Santa!

    Secret Santa Reviews 2022

Merry Christmas everyone! I couldn't wait any longer and have just cracked open my first SS beer: Rebel IPA hopped with Chinook, Willamette, Motueka, Simcoe and Amarillo. I had high hopes for this one with the impressive hop bill and it didn't disappoint. It has a good level of carbonation...

    Secret Santa 2022

That sounds like a great beer. I'm partial to a sloe gin in the winter and it sounds like it will be a nice pairing with stout. Will have to hunt out a recipe for this.

    Secret Santa 2022

Santa delivered my second bottle this morning! Thank you Santa and for the surprise extra hops. I've not ever used Mandarina Bavaria but read lots of good things, so looking forward to trying these out. Cheers!

Or more likely the the sediment from the bottom of the bottle has been shaken back up into suspension and not had time to settle again.

Sounds like the perfect excuse for an early sampling!

    Secret Santa 2022

Loving the labels on the different Secret Santa brews and still awestruck by the Santa who has canning equipment! That's something i must investigate for 2023. The thought of never washing another bottle... 🤤

    Memories anyone?

My Dad had that wine kit. I remember the floral patterned labels! He found the hydrometer and trial jar in a recent clear out and gave them to me . They're stowed away as emergency spares!

    Flip Top Bottles

Not particularly cheap but Sainsbury are selling Grolsch in single flip lock bottles. Think they were £1.65 each. Aldi sell a Belgian Triple beer in a 750ml flip lock bottle for £2.95. it's also a lot nicer than Grolsch!

    Secret Santa 2022

Posted mine out today as I've been away this week, but not using RM so should be with the 'lucky' recipients by Wednesday. And this arrived today. Thank you Santa!

Yep, I'm familiar with that sinking feeling when you get the 'delivery success' photo and think; that's not my hallway and those aren't my slippers!

    New St Peter's kit announced

Very keen to see some reviews on this one. The bottled version is very nice and I've never been able to recreate anything as good either with real fruit or flavourings.

    Brewzilla re circulation tube question

I've always used the top plate as it should help provide an even recirculation of wort during the mash and then for the sparge. Without it, i think you risk the wort forming channels through the grain and so not getting to all of the grain. If you're concerned about the top plate compressing...

    Rhubarb in Tripel

Did you make this? How did it turn out?

Fupped up brew - what to do?

Has it definitely finished? Even with a high mash that's quite a high FG. As for the hops, both options sound nice. I'd be inclined to follow the original plan with the centennial unless you want to use it for something else. Or you could always add all three - super hop! 😉

    Hazelwood’s Brewday Part 2

That's a lot of tasting! 👍 Making me very envious (and thirsty!)

Update to shipping options at The Malt Miller

Good to see an RM option added for small items. There have been a few occasions when I've forgotten to add something to my main order (usually a packet of yeast 🙄) and ended up having to buy it elsewhere as the £6 charge was more than the item.

Commercial UK crown cap bottle recommendations

How strange. I've never had a problem with them. They work fine with my bench capper. (I'm not even sure which of my bottles are old badger ones as they're very standard, unmarked brown 500ml bottles, but never had any trouble capping any of them).
