    Vegans

I was just reading elsewhere on SM about someone moaning that her neighbour was smoking, in his own garden, and the smoke was getting into her bedroom through open windows, and she thought her neighbour unreasonable? Do you sympathise with her? My take is, sorry, people should be free to smoke...

Torrified wheat to aid head retention

At the risk of sounding simplistic, surely the amount of priming is a factor too?

    Bottle labelling

Sharpie with the date number on the bottle-top. Date number and cap colour then defined in brew database. Ordinary sticky labels from the Post Office for the few flip-top bottles.

    The yeast starter conundrum

Personally I've solved the yeast starter conundrum by never bothering with one! :D

    The Wine Loft, St Helens.

That's good to hear; obviously they've had a change of heart. I see their website has been updated with new opening hours, previously it had said the shop was closed. A lot more convenient for me that trailing over to Julie's Homebrew in Newton Heath.

Is the Homebrew hobby in decline?

If you go by the evidence of home-brew shops, they seem to be closing in droves. I know there's plenty of online suppliers, but then again, there always was.

    Parsnip wine

Of course the correct thing to do with parsnips is make stout! :D I have recently scaled up my recipe so as to use four packets of parsnips instead of three, and with care, I can just fit that into my stockpot. That will give me around 18 bottles per batch.

    The Wine Loft, St Helens.

I think it's a bit more complicated than that, but it seems they are offering a delivery service via their website, but whether that is just a question of trying to dispose of existing stock, or they hope to continue thus in the long-term, I don't know.

    The Wine Loft, St Helens.

Please read post #14 after you read this they may be still open - Admin. My local home-brew shop. I've been a customer ever since I started brewing again seriously. After all, I figure, if you don't support your local shop... Drove over there on Tuesday, and all shut up. Oh well, that's...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

My Made With Oatmeal oatmeal stout. Coming on a treat, 31 days in the bottle, will obviously benefit from longer, but all good so far. Seems a bit more successful than previous efforts with porridge oats.

What are you listening to tonight.

    Very envious! :D

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Trying this oatmeal stout, ridiculously early (16 days in the bottle). But delighted on how it's coming on. This is the one made with actual oatmeal.

The 'Recommend me a TV series' thread

I didn't have the patience for Bodies. Ì watched Dark, and thought it was brilliant, but Bodies, not so much.

What are you listening to tonight.

Not the kind of thing I usually listen to, but lately I've been quite obsessed by these three wonderfully talented women.

    What did you brew today?

Further to my discussion on TETB's thread about oatmeal stout, I'm trying an oatmeal stout made with oatmeal! :D Just a small, 10 litre batch: 2000 g Pale Malt 120 g Medium Oatmeal 30 g Porridge Oats 67 g Dark Crystal 120 g Chocolate Malt 67 g Roasted Barley 33 g Black Malt 19 g Challenger @...

    TETB’s Brewdays

Hey, TETB. I was interested in your oatmeal stout. I decided, at a very early stage in my brewing career, and with a very small sample size :D that if I only had the two basics in my cupboard at the time, US05 was a better bet for stouts than S-04. But it seems you've had good results with...
