Young’s APA kit - coming out flat

Does your pressure barrel have a valve you can use to inject gas?

Young’s APA kit - coming out flat

Don’t worry, you won’t have done the yeast any harm at all - it’s a very resilient organism and you just need to get a bit of secondary fermentation going, to carb up your beer athumb.. Did you add any priming sugar to the barrel when you transferred after fermentation?

Kegland red carb cap - gas only?

Aha! Thanks @Buffers brewery ... emboldened by your suggestion I checked the dimensions and it DID fit... but tighter than a duck's doodah 🤣 A bit of the old Buffalo spray has fixed it - thanks athumb..athumb..

Kegland red carb cap - gas only?

Morning all Just got a couple of these Kegland Carb caps from Get 'Er Brewed Site says they should fit liquid or gas but black disconnect won't go on (grey is fine). Known issue? Is that what the yellow ones are for? FWIW the one supplied looks slightly different to the pic on the site. Top...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Bikes are good: means you can have a couple more in the pub and still get home 🤣

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Had a mate round yesterday evening, for a first proper tasting of the beers I kegged back in April: London Bitter (5.3%), Witbier (5.1%), Dubbel (6.8%) and Bière de Garde (7.2%) Let's just say I'm taking things steady today wink... We had a couple of commercial bottles for comparison: really...

Out of my depth please help!

Glad he liked it - how is the clarity of it?

Out of my depth please help!

That's quite likely. To put it simply: At lower mash temps (about 60-63ºc) you get more alcohol and less sweetness in the beer. At higher mash temps (about 68-72ºc) you get more residual sweetness and less alcohol. Generally for a good tasting beer you want a balance between these two...

    TETB’s Brewdays

Exactly! People descend like locusts... before you know it you've been run dry! Hence my cunning plan to brew stronger than normal beers: let's see them try to finish the Bière de Garde or the Dubbel athumb..

Great! Hope it goes well… I’m keeping my fingers off mine (with some difficulty wink...) while it conditions Definitely look fwd to swapping !

Electrical engineers and electricians assemble! brew controller question

I know the type you mean. Note that if you’re not using a fan they are designed to be mounted vertically so as to get a natural convection effect (and always with thermal grease or a mounting pad between the SSR and the heat sink)...

    Horizontal S30 valve

Will the push-fit connector give you enough torque to be able to unscrew the S30 Cylinder afterwards? I don't think I'd personally be brave enough to try refilling a cylinder :-)

Electrical engineers and electricians assemble! brew controller question

Here's an example of where to find the ON state voltage drop in an SSR datasheet. This is for the following, fairly typical device (RS stock no. 903-2970): a single pole SSR from I-Autoc The datasheet for it is here: https://docs.rs-online.com/3083/0900766b81457292.pdf The bit we are looking...

Electrical engineers and electricians assemble! brew controller question

Yes that's right. You can think of the voltage dropped across the SSR in it's "ON" state as being a pretty-much constant voltage of about 1.5 to 2V (you can find the exact value on the manufacturers datasheet). So the working temperature your SSR will stabilise to after a while (e.g. during a...

Electrical engineers and electricians assemble! brew controller question

Perhaps I’ve misunderstood, but I think of a “bypass” as a hard, physical conduction path that connects the heating element directly to the mains supply (see below). The reason you might want to do this is that all SSRs even when manually set to “100%”, have a voltage drop across their...

    Flat beer with tap system

Don't just blindly crank up the pressure: the correct pressure depends on the temperature of the keg (CO2 dissolves much more easily at lower temps). Consult a carbonation chart for the correct pressure to use, such as the one here: https://ikegger.eu/pages/how-to-force-carbonate-brew-under-pressure

I’m not trying to become an alcoholic - just hoping to have a decent amount conditioned in time for the summer :-)

    TETB’s Brewdays

Kegged off the Witbier and London Bitter from a couple of weekends ago. Lordy, that's quite a lot of beer 🤣
