    Electric cars.

It's a bit like EV fires. My car comes via Tusker who are now one of the biggest business car leasing companies (they do everyone from the NHS to O2 Telefonica and most companies Sal Sac car schemes) They were saying they've had 3 EVs burn in the entire time they've been leasing them (which is...

The 'Recommend me a TV series' thread

Just finished Ted Lasso. I'll be honest, I'm not really a soccer fan and the wife detests it, but we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Honestly, one of the best things I've ever seen. The thing is, the whole premise could be Rugby, Hockey, Cricket or *insert team sport here*. The sport itself is...

WHC - Mango Madness. Meh, not bothered.

I find that fascinating that people are finding that. I'll be completely honest here, I run Verdant at the top of its temperature limits, if not slightly over - it hit 27c during the summer (many people have said it's a lot more thermotolerant than it makes out). Never had a stall and I've done...

    Electric cars.

What about Hybrids that are 50x more likely to go up in flames and have both downsides of petrol (quick fire) and battery (heavy fire)? Should they be banned?

    Blackpool

That wouldn't be the case here. Yes there were a number of "affordable" houses, but it was slightly different game. The plan was to build a town that would fit around people's work. The idea being a science park and offices, a marina, restaurant, cafes and probably a local shop plus 1500...

    July 2024 - Belgians

Sadly, I'm out. Everything that could have gone wrong with this beer did and it's virtually undrinkable at the moment. I'll leave it a couple of months and return to it.

Sadly, being an expert doesn't mean you don't have strong opinions. Covid showed that. And it's caused people to become heavily divisive. If you have 1,000 experts who say "This isn't likely to happen" it only takes 1 so-called expert to say "It is likely" that people jump on it.

    Electric cars.

See how you go then. I don't think you'll get 70.3 - unless you're doing a particular type of mileage. I guess my problem is I have a rather heavy right foot. I did actually get 100mpg out of my Prius too. I used to live fairly close to the motorway. I used battery mostly to get me to the...

Absolutely. I've no idea how a Government can force private building companies to build housing though. They only build houses if they think there's money in it (as the lot round my way found - we have planning permission for 1500 houses, but no-one wants to build them).

    Electric cars.

Absolutely. If you do more than 20,000 miles a year or can't charge regularly at home, I'd say an EV isn't for you. That MPG is like something that's hanging off the rear end of a male cow though. I say that as someone who owned a Prius that said 50-75mpg. 50 was pushing it. You could get...

    Electric cars.

Depends where you're doing it. But bear in mind this hugely depends on the size of the battery in the same way that MPG comes into play. On the most expensive chargers, that'll be about £24 for my car and will add somewhere around 125 miles. So around 19.2p per mile. That's based on the 85p a...

    Electric cars.

The problem I find is that they're too expensive. I mean, why would you charge at a supermarket at 85p a unit when you can do it at home for 22p (or 9p if you have a regular nighttime rate or 7p if you have a compatible car or charger)? Most people don't even need an expensive charger if they...

But we need the miles of sprawling housing. Hence why Labour have said they'll open up Brownfield sites. And before someone plays the immigration card, this has been the case for a number of years. We earn more money, therefore we expect a better standard of living, which means a couple...

    Blackpool

Well yes and no. Firstly CGT is based on investment gains rather than earned income. If you want the economy to grow, you need to encourage investment. The Government some years back realised that housing was a cash cow because of the way it was increasing. Ironically, rather than them...

    Ultra processed food

Frankly, I'm fat because I eat too much and drink too much. I really should cut down on my portion sizes. However, I rarely if ever eat processed foods. My wife has IBS and we have to be very careful with certain foods, so it's easier to make from scratch. If I look at our main meals this...

The Wriggly Monkey Brewery Limited liquidation auction, Malt

Aww naww :( I'm a big car show fan and until 18 months ago, regularly went to shows at Bicester Heritage where they were based. Would always partake of a pint. Shame. I thought they were doing quite well - they've been around for a number of years.

    "That homebrew taste"

Oh absolutely - a mate of mine said "There's no such thing as bad beer - if you leave it long enough, it'll taste great" I did a NEIPA that came out horribly a few months back - way too bitter. His thoughts are that if I leave it long enough, it'll mellow.

    Blackpool

Yup. My folks are landlords. And they're about to get hit massively with CGT if the rumours are true. Landlords are ditching their properties really quickly at the moment. I lived in Blackpool in the 90s. Frankly, there are many places I'd rather live too - it's grim. And these days it's much...

    "That homebrew taste"

Absolutely temperature controlled. All done in a fermentation fridge. But as above, does sound like oxidisation. Because I couldn't ferment under pressure, I've a feeling I did get oxygen in. Thanks all!

    "That homebrew taste"

Has anyone actually worked out what causes THT? Since returning to brewing, using bottled water and all-grain, I've not had it until tonight. I've been doing this Duvel for what seems like weeks - we're in week 6. It's been lagering for a couple of weeks and I thought I'd taste it tonight...
