    Combi Boiler

There's an idea. I've just branched off the pipe to the sink tap atm. The guys are coming next week. If the link is not needed I might use the cold feed as it's closer and probably more accessible. Cheers.

    Combi Boiler

Hard to tell from this pic, but I think it might have a filling loop. The boiler was fitted just prior to us getting the property 3 years ago. The fitter probably took easy option during install and left the existing pipework as is? I'll give them a call as we use them service etc. Yes the...

    Sink waste plumbing

Hi all, Does the attached image look a logical way to plumb the waste in the kitchen. Previously all the appliances and boiler overflow connected under the sink, but we'll have limited space under there with the new kitchen, plus the proposed would eliminate a right angle turn lose...

    Combi Boiler

Rapid responses! Thanks all. I’ll be back with another plumbing query soon. Hopefully I’ll be back brewing when the kitchen is sorted.

    Combi Boiler

I planned to ask this question on Screwfix but the community site doesn’t send me an email to set up my account. I can’t be arsed trying endless forums, so…. We’re fitting a new kitchen and noticed a flexi hose connecting the water in pipe to the central heating return pipe. One of the valves...

Have you tried a pale malt only recipe?

    Back to kits - questions

Got this on. I dissolved the liquid extract from the kit with approx 3l boiled water, taken from my starting 20l. I then added the spray malt whilst stirring, sure enough it clumped but a good stir sorted it. I then added this to the remaining water. Giving me approx 22l of 1.043 wort. The...

    February competition - Dark Beers

Great, I have what I call a dark smoked mild I'd like to enter.

    Back to kits - questions

I'd call myself an all grain brewer, but living in a flat it's proving problematic. So back to kits I go, although I only ever did 2 over 6 years ago. I'm ready to do a Ritchies Simply Lager with 1kg medium spray malt, liberty bell yeast and dry hopped with solero. Ideally, should the spray...

    Fermenting in Kettle

Anyone ferment in their kettle? Reason I ask is I biab and now use hop bags. I was thinking rather than transfer to another vessel, I could pitch yeast once cooled?

    Rauchbier with kveik yeast

    Base grain for most brews?

Not that I could detect. There were other issues with my beers!

    Base grain for most brews?

I used a different base malt for each brew in a 6ish brew batch. E.g 3.2kg crisp pale, 4.3kg pilsner, 3.9kg gp and so on. This way, the maltmiller supplied each of my bases weighed and bagged. I just then made up the rest of the bill with specialty malts. It was done out of convenience and...

    Rauchbier with kveik yeast

I no chill, so cooling to 35-40c is more convenient, and then pitching and free falling like @Rodcx500z. Although cooling to 20ish is doable atm, I've been burnt by rising temps during fermentation. Other yeast i have is liberty bell and saf04. I think i planned to do a small batch in the...

    Rauchbier with kveik yeast

Anyone done this? I have 2kg of bestmaltz i need to use and really need to use cml dry kveik due to lack of fermenting temp control. I've used the cml dry kveik before, but on english hopped ales and couldn't detect the orange flavour some report. Any comments?

    Equipment upgrade

Will follow this thread as I'm thinking of changing to similar set up, but corny keg nit snub nose. This is due to doing 15-16l batches and general space. Yes please report how bottling goes. Regarding spunding. When you set the dial to 5psi, this should 'keep' 5psi in the vessel (and...
