    Is cask beer this simple?

I’ve just poured a glass, I had to after talking about it! Here’s a couple of pictures to whet your appetite. After a sip you can see a hole in that creamy head where I supped it up. I’ve heard people say that forced carbonation is just as good and that CO2 is just CO2 wherever it comes from...

    Is cask beer this simple?

I think you probably have the answers you’re looking for but I’ll chip in anyway. What I’m going isn’t quite the same as bottle conditioning because bottle conditioned beers have higher carbonation which to my mind is a completely inferior product (still nice but cask is so much better). It is...

…and the cask version. It’s still only been in the cask for two weeks so has barely started conditioning but is now just starting to develop that smooth soft mouthfeel. Not the best photo in a darkened room but it’s lashing down outside.

My brew is done and resting before I transfer it to the fermenter. Time for a small glass of my cask bitter before I prep tomorrows brewday, a Czech lager.

Time for that taste. The beer is almost clear and has good colour, the head is foamy and long lasting. Aroma is clean and what you’d expect for a Belgian Dubbel although perhaps a bit muted. The flavour is caramelised sugar and those Belgian esters but the beer might need another couple of...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

As it’s a little early for a beer I thought I’d sit outside with a coffee and a couple of chocolate danish pastries while mashing another batch of Pirate Pale. I’m quite keen though to see how my Belgian Dubbel is getting on…

Obviously not as hazy and the original is not as fruity as the second attempt. I prefer the second I think but they are both nice.

Kegged Best Bitter. This keg is also getting low! 🤷‍♂️

    On to my original NEIPA.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Bottle conditioned Best Bitter. It’s still quite young and has a little chill haze as I’ve just taken it out of the fridge. Nice fresh flavour though and despite the haze it tastes clean.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

A glass of my Pirate Pale while bottling some beers and preparing for a brewday tomorrow.

My latest Porter, a touch lively to start.

tI had a glass of my bitter and now this glass of my original NEIPA. It is still hazy 😉

Pirate Pale. The keg is virtually empty now unfortunately.

I’m having another Brown Ale because the flavour is lovely. This beer sits perfectly between my Best Bitter and my Porter. The flavour would also really suit a strong ale with the addition of a warming alcohol component so that’s giving me food for thought. 🤔

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

After 6 days in the keg it’s time for a first taste of my Brown Ale.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

I fancied some cheese & pickle with crusty bread and of course a drop of beer so that’s what I’m having for lunch. The beer is my cask best bitter.

Another Best Bitter, this time the cask version.
