    WOW its off again

Am i not right in saying that if you have used sugar to back sweeten, you will have kick started any residual yeast into refermenting. Should you not have used sweetener? :wha: Just having made and started drinking my first WOW last week I'm pretty new to this but that would be my 2 bobs worth.

Number Two, Newbie's Foraged Bramble Brew

Thanks Gayle, it smells and looks amazing and the small glass left over tasted great mixed with vodka and lemonade so i have high hope for it :D Can't believe you can't find good supply of brambles in NI. There's loads around the back roads near Kilrea if you're near that neck of the woods...

Newbie First Brew - Ginger Beer

Ok it's been a week now and thinkn about next steps.... i've confused myself with mountains of forum reading and don't know what i'm doing. I want to clear the beer as best i can prior to bottling, so: 1) Do i leave it in 1st FV for FG to become stable? (currently 1 bubble every 36 seconds...

    Homebrew Original Gravity Table

After a first brew OG fax pas, Muntons provided me with this table which may be of use to anyone who is interested. Homebrew Original Gravity Table Malt Extract Quantity Used (g) Volume (litres) Gravity @ 20°c 800 10 1024...

    Hypothetically speaking.......

Got a really helpfull email this morning from Graham Sutton at Muntons this morning with a OG table per 10 litre and gram differentiation for spray and malt extract. Will stick it up on another thread for reference. From what i work it out at now my SG should have been around 1067, so you were...

Can I Bottle In Barrs Bottles

Cheers everyone, Barr's bottle it is. They'll be living in the cupboard anyway which is pretty dark and to be honest i can't see 5L conditioning for too long anyway :drunk:

Can I Bottle In Barrs Bottles

I can't see why not but maybe someone else who's used them knows otherwise. Can i bottle beer or other fizzy alcoholic brews in Barrs Glass Bottles? :wha: Surely if it can hold Irn-Bru, it can hold anything

    Hypothetically speaking.......

Hi Steve Thanks for the reply. No i wasn't that silly. It's spraymalt. I've emailed the company to get the actual sugar content so i can work out the actual SG as have done some research on calculating it from my tap water's SG. Looks like you're probably not going to be far off though. Think...

Number Two, Newbie's Foraged Bramble Brew

Hi guys'n'galls I've just started brewing, and this is my second shot. First is working ok (ginger and medium malt brew on other post) but forgot a few things, like taking the SG. Duh :wha: So today i was walking the dog in the wasteland behind my house when i realised there was sporadic...

    Hypothetically speaking.......

Not bad ma man from the Ferm Line of Dun... see what i did there... anyway :? One would assume that the sensible newbie, or brewbie, would have used a kit, but nay, i went in with both boots and invented a first homebrew instead :wha: my recipe is on this thread...

    Hypothetically speaking.......

So hypothetically speaking, if someone forgot to take the SG before letting their first brew go on for, lets say 3 1/2 days, is there any way to get a rough idea of what the ABV is, or is going to be. What?? Nooooo, i didn't forget, that would be a stupid thing to do  Ok so i...

Newbie First Brew - Ginger Beer

Thanks Nugget, that has now been added to my list for price and review comparisons. Reads well though as a good all round and fast fermenter which is handy but a lot pricier than my Alisons tin for 98p :? but i'll try a sachet for experiment's sake. Simon sounds like a fruity number. Is the...

Newbie First Brew - Ginger Beer

Thanks for the comments Dunfi. I take note of your point about the yeast and will see what it tastes like in a few weeks. Have to say it didn't make any difference to my previous gingerbeer recipes though. Think i'll get some ale yeast as suggested and make the same again to see what the...

Newbie First Brew - Ginger Beer

Hi thanks for taking a look. I'm new to brewing but have made a few batches of ginger beer using root ginger, lemon, water, sugar and yeast fermented in 2L plastic bottles then experimented with rasberries, lemon balm, plums.... Have today tried using malt to make a beer like ginger beer. Now...
