    Corny Keg Questions

I bought one of these ,but it's still in the post, so I don't know if it's any good or not.

    Corny Keg Questions

You can pick up an inline flow-control thing that plugs into your beer line for less than £10 on ebay. My understanding is that this will reduce the flow-rate the same as adding loads of beer line, but with more flexibility ( you don't have to cut/add line to tweak ). I've got one getting...

    Dry Hopping

I got them out straight after the boil by pouring the pan through a sieve, into the fermenter. Adding cold water got it straight down to 18'c. It didn't occur to me to look up a reasonable quantity of hops for a boil - I assumed that because that was a reasonable amount for dry hopping, it...

    Dry Hopping

I've done all grain before, I was just looking for a shortcut to go with the kit because I'm lazy. I did what you suggested on Monday night. I went with 55g of Amarillo (as that's what I had in) for 15 minutes. It smells good in the fermenter. I might play with aroma in the future, but I'm...

    Dry Hopping

Thanks, I'll give that a go. I'm not overly fussed about aroma, more about flavour. Adding just for aroma seems like a waste of perfectly good hops.

    Dry Hopping

I've been drinking this all weekend. It's perfectly drinkable, but it's not great. I noticed that the aroma was much stronger than the flavour, and it's more bitter than I'd hoped. This week I'm going to start a cheap Geordie Bitter kit that I've had around for a while, and I'll try that one...

    Filtering options

Hi, I currently ferment in a cheap plastic bucket like most people. I then transfer into another cheap plastic bucket, then into my cornie. I'm curious about my options for filtering. I have an auto-syphon, which has a plastic cap on the bottom to prevent pulling in the sediment, but I'd...

    Galaxy hops

Just stumbled across this thread. I've seen somewhere that hops can cause dogs to lose their ability to regulate temperature and cause them to die within a few hours, so I've started being very careful disposing of mine since I read that. I presume the amount of oil in the final beer wouldn't be...

    Dry Hopping

I've just done the transfer and added 50g of each ( Amarillo & Galaxy ) as they were both in 100g bags. I intend to keg + force carb on Friday dinner ( 1pm, ish ), put it in the shed to cool for the afternoon and taste it on Friday night. I'll update again then. :drink:

    Dry Hopping

Hi, I've currently got a Thomas Coopers IPA kit fermenting and I've got some Galaxy and Amarillo hop pellets coming in a few days. From memory, I think the TC IPA is not at all hoppy, like every other kit I've tried. I really like strong hoppy flavours in beer, and so from what I've read...

    Aging beer

Thanks. It will generally be hoppy IPA type beers. I think I'll be fine then. I'll make it my new years resolution to not take more than 4 weeks to finish a keg, and I'll get a second cornie in a few months unless I see one outrageously cheap.

    Aging beer

I'm planning on leaving it the secondary ( after adding finings in the primary ), so there shouldn't be that much yeast left. It depends how long I take to drink the keg. I'd guess at a few weeks, but I don't know.

    Aging beer

Hi, I've recently got a Cornelius keg and all the stuff to go with it. and it's great. I was considering getting a spare, so I could have my next beer ageing while I drink my current batch, but that'll cost me another £65. Am I safe to leave my next batch of beer in the fermenter...

    Finings affecting secondary fermentation

I bought some isinglass liquid and put it in my primary fermenter 2 days ago when fermentation was just about complete. My LHBS says that this won't affect the secondary fermentation, but the label says it will cause live yeast to coagulate and sink. Does anybody know if my LHBS is right or...

    Consistent pressure for a cheapo

Afternoon chaps, I've currently got 3 crappy Youngs pressure barrels, and a couple of S30 cylinders. I was wondering if there is a way to rig up my barrels so I can deliver consistent pressure to them, rather than waiting until my beer starts losing carbonation before I fill it up. I'm...
