    St peters ruby red ale

 I made this beer at the end of April. I barreled it for 2 weeks then bottled. Tried some last night, and I thought it was ok, very clear but a little too bitter for my taste, but I can live with that :drink:

    Conditioning question

 Thanks all. So it would appear that what I do for kits is also the same for AG :drink:

    Conditioning question

 Hi all another question ( I know,I know) In AG brewing do you put the finished beer into a barrel/cask for a few weeks then bottle or do you bottle straight away? If you barrel, do you prime in the normal way, or prime the bottles after filling from the barrel, or both. The reason I...

Almost ready for the dark side

 HI all. I will be starting AG brewing fairly soon. Boiler is on its way and mash tun etc in the process of manufacture. Could someone post, or point me in the right direction, recipe + method for a basic English bitter please. Also what is the best book for clone beers? Regards...

    Wort chiller preference

 HI all. I'm making my own chiller from copper tube. Would it be better to send the hot wort through the tube, via a cold bath, or put the chiller into the wort? As a gardener I would prefer the former as this would not waste water, What do others think :wha: Regards Richard

    Intermediate brewing

 Thanks all for your replies. I certainly would not contemplate throwing any books away, this happened with my wine note books, by accident, and I lost almost 40 years of notes. As I have said I don't have room for AG despite all my endevours to make room, but I do have a little...

    Intermediate brewing

 Thanks but that is far to involved for me. I need a simpler description of method etc. After that I will be able to adapt as I have with kits. The book by Charlie gives a simple way to do it including using cold water in the FV then pouring the hot wort onto it. \But the some...

    Intermediate brewing

 Thanks evanvine all advice will be welcome. I have tweaked kits for so long that I now need to move on. I don't have the room for full AG but the extract style only needs a largs stock pan, I like the name partial mash, and according to what I have seen and read it is almost as good...

    Intermediate brewing

 Hi all. I don't have the room for AG but I have been reading about the above. I think this is the way for me to go after all the kits. What I would like to know is, is there a British book ( I've got an American one) that deals with this subject? Regards Richard G

    Pitching the Yeast

 Evanvine I have a book called the Joy of Home Brewing by Charlie Papazian. It is a complete beer making book that has chapters starting with a kit then tweeked kits and then of course AG and you would be suprised at some of the things he adds to kits
