    Electrim type boilers

Hi all, Thanks for all the advice - I kind of know what I want (a nice shiney thing) but will have to wait until sata has been and hopefully dropped a bit of cash in my stocking. Merry Xmas all!

    Electrim type boilers

Wow! That for around the same price as a plastic one! Well, I'm gradually being drawn to the shiney side... One thing I am totally cluless about (well, another of many things I am clueless about) - on the oldjiver shiney for example, do you need to have some kind of thermostat to control the...

    Electrim type boilers

Thanks guys. Just seen that The Malt Miller isn't that far from where I work (Thanks!), but I've been wondering about thermostats and such. Do I need one fitted? Or is a boil a boil - just like a kettle does without any temp control at all? Mr Confused.

    Electrim type boilers

Hi All, I'm thinking about doing some extract brewing after Xmas and was wondering about boilers. I can't afford those lovely shiny stainless steel jobs, so was wondering if anyone had experience of using the Electrim ones? I see they have a new digital type affair out at just over 100 quid...

    Hip Hops

Yes, it was a bit bloaty. Should I just squeeze it out (taken out of the FV first) and then chuck it back in?

    Conditioning temp - too cold?

Hi, me again... I have a bottled St Peters Stout conditioning in my garage, but with the recent cold weather it gets down to around 1 degree in there (in really harsh winters it gets to freezing). Will this spoil the brew? SWMBO isn't too keen on having the house look like a pub (why?), so it...

    Hip Hops

Hi All, I have a Coopers bitter on the go for a week and am trying my first dry hop. I put the 50g of hops in a muslin bag (well a sewn up hankie, actually) with a couple of marbles in it and a bit of string to get it out with, and popped the FV. I tried to get it to sink, but it just made...

    Coopers Stout Final Gravity

Mine is still dropping. 1010 last night and a few more bubbles through the airlock. Best give it another couple of days? Tasted the sample jar and it was lovely. I too will be sitting on my hands for a while, I think. I don't have any other homebrew in the house apart from my ginger beer that is...

    Coopers Stout Final Gravity

Thanks, Guys. I'll take a reading tonight and tomorrow, and if all are the same - keg it!!

    Coopers Stout Final Gravity

Hi All, I have a Coopers Stout in the FV - been in there for 12 days now at a temp of 21 degrees. Brewed with 1kg of Coopers Enhancer 2 and the start gravity was 1042. Then I chucked in 80g of dissolved muscavado sugar that I found laying around. Hell, why not :D I checked the gravity last...

St Peters Stout Fermentation - has it finished?

OK, did that and the hydrometer is spot on. Checked the brew again last night and it had dropped to 1014 and is bubbling away again! Maybe I disturbed the yeast or the house is a bit warmer or a combination of the two, but that's a good thing. Just got to wait for it to finish now. Thanks for...

St Peters Stout Fermentation - has it finished?

Hi All, I've got a St Peters Stout in the FV that has been kept at 18 degrees for two weeks. On the instructions it says bottle when the gravity is 1014, but mine is 1018... so... does it need a stir, or just another few days in the FV? Two weeks seems a long time for it to still be fermenting...

    Fermentation temp varience

Blimey, I only ever leave mine for a few days after ferm has stopped in the same bucket and then keg it. That may explain my cloudy beer! I'll take the next brew off of the dead yeast for a bit, then.

    Fermentation temp varience

Hi All, New boy here... be gentle... I've been reading about temperature when fermenting ale from kits and am mighty confused about the optimum temp. I've done a few kits with varying results and all said ferment at 18 - 20 degrees. Is that a 'ball park' figure by the manufactures? I would...
