    BZ's mini-microbrewery

After 2 years of brewing anything between 10 and 20 gallons at a time I've decided I want to do smaller batches like in the old days. As there were no 33L Nordic pots around at the time I went for a 19L stockpot brewery. I should be able to get a cornies worth out of it which suits Me atm...

    Cornelius Sanitising

I have used bleach to sanitize amd clean Cornelius kegs. I keep the contact time down to around 5 to 10 minutes max and they seem ok! I think the problem with bleach and stainless is when a small amount is left in the bottom of the keg to evaporate which can cause pitting. Don't use the...

    Brewing day from Hell!

I sympathise with You mate! Glad the Dog is OK! Today I got hailed on, rained on and underestimated the strike temperature as I could not find a thermometer. Dipped My finger in the HLT which seemed to be about right. I found the thermometer and checked the mash temp which was at 55c. Had to...

1st time using pressure barrel, help needed

Graham does advocate venting of the barrel to release volatiles as You state. You can now put the barrel somewhere cool for the CO2 to dissolve into the beer. You may need to add more CO2 as it will be absorbed by the beer. Two week should do it, but four weeks if You can wait! It will clear...

    Hot break question

I seem to remember reading that the foam early into the boil and having added the hops is unisomerised hop oils and resins which eventually do become isomerised. BZ

    Stockports and shiny things

Nordic are behaving very suspiciously atm. They have nothing for sale on Ebay but Nadine states they have 100L pots in stock at around 110 euros including shipping. With the current financial climate I am being very wary of some of My less reliable suppliers. Hint hint hint.....

    New Years Resolutions

Mine has been to quit smoking. I was 11 when I started and I'm 44 now. I'll have managed 3 days at midnight tonight. No patches or **** tasting gum just a determination to kick the bleeding habit once and for all. I promised the old man I'd do it before He slipped His mortal coil last April...

Book Review - Brewing Beers Like Those You Buy

I think the photo of Dave on the back cover of the edition I have says so much about the Man. That smile of His is a genuine one and shows just how much he enjoyed what He did. My first brew was Royal Oak from the same book and got Me hooked on AG from the start. Here's to Dave Line :drink:

    Split brew day question

I read somewhere, probably in a William Cobbet txt, that a lot of brewers in His day added a second batch of wort to the hops left after the first boil and adding extra hops for a second boil.

Is there hope for my batch!

Quite a few round here leave their wort in primary for weeks on end. This is basically what You have done albeit in a keg rather than a fermenter. If You have another keg then You could syphon into it so long as everything is sterilised first. This will leave the sediment behind. If not then...
