brewing stout - how short can you go?

one of the issues is the lack of bottles - garage is full of past IPAs and pales and its not like ill be stopping after the stout! im happy if the ABV goes to 8, 9 or 10 probably don't want it much over 10- ideal would be about 8.5 following their kit and brew to 23L says approx. 4%

brewing stout - how short can you go?

Hi, To up The ABV and IBU on past IPA kits I have brewed short from the recommended 23 L to 20L. No problems came out as I wanted stronger and fuller flavor. I am now about to start a Chocmeister Kit from Wilko which I will be adding raspberries and Lactose to make a chocolate raspberry milk...

    when to stick on lables

Hi, so I'm gonna try to stick on labels with milk at the weekend, I've had my bottles in the house for 2 weeks after priming and will be moving to the garage for a weeks cold storage before drinking/giving away. I want to give some as gifts and gonna try sticking labels on with milk. would it...

pimping a kit to make a NEIPA

thanks, very useful. taken from that article a New England IPA is basically an American IPA that features an intense, mostly tropical fruit, hop aroma and flavor, is heavily dry hopped to the point of being hazy, and that has a fuller body, smoother flavor, and less perceived bitterness than...

pimping a kit to make a NEIPA

Hi, anyone have any ideas of how to pimp a liquid kit to make a NEIPA, could I just do an IPA and add hops like Citra Mosaic and Galaxy to it?

    draining bottles

great response, thanks very much athumb.. looks like I have a diy project although concerns about storing it. I found this looks like it would be easy enough to sterilize and wont break the budget though obviously wont be able to strain them all at once

    draining bottles

Hi, I've seen the draining trees for bottles but I haven't got one yet and I've spent to much on this hobby recently to go out and get one but I have to sterilize 40 odd bottles soon. Does anyone have a DIY solution or do you just turn upside down on the draining board? just a bit worried about...

    adding chocolate to a stout

Thanks, yes I would add the highest percent dark choc I could find - Milky bar stout, now that would be something. Ive had a white stout but not a white chocolate stout. if you mix with boiling water the fat should separate somewhat and float, so can be skimmed off to minimize amount of fat...

    adding chocolate to a stout

the kits I use are just the ones that come in vacuumed bags or cans that you pour straight in to the bucket and top up with water, I then add fruit and/or hops half way through the fermentation depending on what recipe to make it my own. so I like the idea of simply adding chocolate that has...

    adding chocolate to a stout

Hi, so in the future I am looking to try and replicate a raspberry milk stout that I've had in the past but im just a kit brewer, I don't want to get into boiling grain and all that just yet so I was going to get a stout kit and add some frozen raspberries half way through the ferment along...

    syphoning to a second bucket

good point about not starting to carbonate straight away - not sure what I was thinking. Math's should be fine as I have bottles all the same sizes - only reason I'm leaning towards the syringe method is that I purchased a load of syringes and the video does it that way so I have something to...

    Milkshake flavours

milkshake IPAs are my fav at the mo, Tiny rebel do a few bangers. Their Strawberries and cream ale was one of the best beers ive had and my only 5 on Untapped (though I was a few in and feeling the affects of an afternoon of the beers in Hackney) but its not available in cans or bottles so you...
