    5l kegs (carbonation issues)

Hi, Really need some advice on force carbing a keg! Recently decided to get a couple of 5l (kegland mini kegs - 5l as per the picture). I brew in 10l batches so the size is perfect. The idea was to keg lagers and APAs and force carbonate and continue bottling other beers as usual. I must be...

I've come to the conclusion that carbonation is just an on-going process

I think I would agree that bottles can often carry on carbonating if stored for long periods. It depends on the yeast used, some are famous for gradual fermentation of previously unfermented sugars. Also, storage temperature. Over the summer, where I can't store beers cold, there's definitely...

    BeerSmith 2 Expert needed

I changed the absorption rate previously. Very different set up with BIAB but may be worth a try as suggested.

    Draught ale from a bottle

As said, reducing the sugar used to prime is the obvious answer. That said, I personally find that a bottle conditioned beer carbonated to 1-1.5vols vs one carbonated to around 2 vols and then decanted into a jug offers a different experience. My preference for English style beers is the latter...

    Mash pH meter

These are the ones I meant

    Mash pH meter

They can be fairly accurate, but the issue is they have to be calibrated all the time and don't seem to hold the calibration. I found that the 4.8-5.8 pH strips are cheap (when you take into account the ph calibration solutions etc) and work well for most purposes.

    Draught ale from a bottle

Definitely try reducing the sugar first. Also, pouring a bottle into a jug first, knocks a lot of carbonation out and somewhat replicates a hand pulled type pint.

    Universal c02 regulator

So, found where I have been going wrong! There was another part which I didn't notice and I'm fairly confident it will fit the link above 1/4 mfl to 3/8.

Would this be the correct one? https://brewkegtap.co.uk/products/1-4-mfl-3-8-pushfit-john-guest

    Universal c02 regulator

Thanks. Does anyone know which fitting I need to fit the regulator to 3/8 gas line? I thought I had ordered the correct part 3 times now, but it's still not right and it's driving me mad. I just received a John guest 1/4" BSP - 3/8 push fit. This is far too big though. Do DIY shops or places...

    Universal c02 regulator

That's true, it was concerning seeing it come up the line but should be fine then I guess. Is there any downside to using a check valve apart from the regulator won't vent?

    Universal c02 regulator

Thanks! Should gas be on when connecting gas line? I connected previously and the line filled up to the check valve (which was lucky it was on presumably). Possibly over filled the keg which may not have helped. Need to get some scales I think

    Universal c02 regulator

Hi, just after some advice on the use of a co2 regulator as in the picture. Having bottled beer for many years, I've finally got a couple of 5l kegland minikegs, mainly for dispensing lagers. I'm using 16g gas bulbs at the moment due to very limited space. Now, because of this, naturally I...

Why is my mash pH always way off target?

What's your mash thickness? I'm always a bit off (high) as I do a thin mash (full volume BIAB). I then usually add a little additional acid after 15 mins and usually get there. Strange though if you're already aiming low and adding additional acid to compensate
