    5L Re-usable kegs?

One downside of the carb caps compared to the oxebar set up is the lack of a prv. Unlikely to be an issue in regular use but if one of the mini regulators malfunctioned, seems like it could be a problem. If you want cheap 3l bottles and don't want to drink 3l of nasty cider, Iceland do 3l...

Cooling options / advice when using a Steam condensor

No harm in using the veg bags but I've never had issues with loose (pellet) hops in the BZ4. I haven't tried whole hops. The only time I had an issue was with grain getting blocked in the counterflow chiller (the pump carried on fine). Worth always double checking the floor of the malt pipe is...

    Crossmyloof

Yeah sorry! Was always great service. Will have to plan well ahead now

    Crossmyloof

Looks like Crossmyloof are closing down this year which is a real shame! On the last order this week: Hi there. A wee announcement about what’s happening here at Crossmyloof Brew in the coming weeks. After a decade of selling hops and yeast, we’ll be taking early retirement by the end of 2024...

    'Fast' larger method

You definitely can, not necessarily the traditional approach though. Bottles will clear with time and flavours round out a little. Make sure to pour carefully as the yeast doesn't tend to stick too well to the bottom with lager yeast in my experience.

    'Fast' larger method

Could you lager in the bottle for longer if needed? It's not a bad method in a pinch, just it's a style that in my opinion benefits from time. Lager yeast strains such as w34/70 are supposedly fairly neutral even if you push the temperature more towards ale temps.

    'Fast' larger method

Yes I've used this method previously. Does the lager improve after a month? Yes I think so. I needed longer for it to clear completely which for me is important in a lager. If I was in a rush, I would likely brew something else to be honest. Would you plan on kegging or bottling?

    Using chilled keg dispensers

You could prime the keg and bottles individually, but a low carbonation saison is probably not ideal.

    Using chilled keg dispensers

From the top of the keg in the picture, it still looks like the "easy keg" or equivalent that are also used to lightly carbonate cask type beers. I also bought a set of three unmarked kegs of this type which were fine for a low carbonation style over two to three uses. After that unfortunately...

    Using chilled keg dispensers

https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/easy-keg-5l.57568/page-93 Here's a really long thread on them. I think I used 12g sugar to carbonate.

    Using chilled keg dispensers

If these are the type of mini kegs that you get in supermarkets with beer already in, they won't manage high pressure. When I used them, I only primed to approx 1.5 vols co2 like a cask ale. Unfortunately they don't last long before giving off an "aluminium" flavour from my experience.

    Brewzilla gen 4 question

The buckles were black and yes had a small screw and nut to fix to the unit.

    Brewzilla gen 4 question

I bought from brewkegtap and didn't get the buckles in the original order. They sent after a quick email no issue.

    RAPT Thermometer on AliExpress

Yes it is coated in something waterproof and it can be submerged. I prefer not to submerge the end still though out of habit. It doesn't sink in the mash for me even when the mash is thin. So by default works its way into the middle of the mash which is ideal.

    First brew with Brewzilla G4

I've used the whirlpool arm a couple of times now and did get a decent cone of trub / hops in the middle of the bottom plate. Watching the wort flow out of the BZ, it did seem to drain around the sides of the trub cone and until the last few drops it was clear wort. This was even with a...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

Yes, there's a video specifically about this on the Kegland youtube page on how to set up the PID function. It does a good job of explaining the relevant settings. I think I also used a David Heath video on youtube which was helpful. It was then a little trial and error with water, raising the...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

I also use GEB malt and haven't had an issue so far. It wasn't marked as double crushed (one of the three options they have)? As above, I would definitely reduce the flow rate. I've found the separate thermometer to be useful. With the PID settings properly calibrated, it holds to within a...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

I may have missed your response, but did you have the pump running at full speed, or throttled back (with ball valve / percentage setting)?

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

Was the pump working at full speed? Or had you throttled it with the ball valve / pump percentage setting? I think stirring regularly is a good idea anyway. I go with a very thin mash so haven't had this problem, but what was your grain to water ratio out of interest ?

    Kegs, "kegs" and other 'kegs'

Yep definitely best avoided in my experience. They started to rust for me quite quickly and I had a metallic taste after three or so uses.
