30 bottle wine kit - can you do it in a fermenting bin

How do you manage to take hydrometer readings from these narrow neck fermenters? Do you draw off a sample somehow? Andy

    Gorse Flower Wurzels

I have been given a load of gorseflower syrup courtesy of my mother - she picked a load of gorse flowers and made them into a syrup as per the HFW Gorseflower Wine recipe http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/chefs/hugh-fearnley-whittingstall/gorseflower-wine-recipe_p_1.html. Now I am looking at...

    Antiformin

Just got some of this myself. Agree it is awesome stuff. I understand a 1pc solution will keep for a while and can be reused. Would keeping it in a pet bottle for a few days be OK or would it eat through the pet?

Hop and grape hop filter modification

After getting a very annoying stuck runoff from the boil yesterday, I have modified my Hop and Grape hop filter manifold to try and prevent the problem recurring. Picture below shows I have drilled two 3mm holes between each of the slits in the pipe. I hope this improves runoff and stops...

    Peanut Butter Porter

Yes think thats an American site - I expect they'd deliver that stuff to the UK if you asked them nicely. I am half tempted to give this a bash as an experimental brew... :-) I have been looking for an unusual recipe to fill a load of brewdog bottles to give away as xmas presents. This is...

    Peanut Butter Porter

Id agree that 6 weeks removing the oil from peanut butter is obsessive to the point of being a bit mad. Those crazy Yanks! Although this powdered stuff could be the lazy answer... I wonder if peanut butter without the peanut oil or the butter still tastes like peanut butter though...? :wha...

    Peanut Butter Porter

I saw this recipe for Peanut Butter Porter on t'internet and it caught my eye as it combines 2 things I love - peanut butter and beer! The recipe looks a bit advanced for me - I've only done 4 all-grains and this looks potentially tricky. Never seen powdered peanut butter before! I thought some...

That's fermentation well underway in under 12 hours.. I have dropped the temperature from 23c to 18c for the remainder of the fermentation.

Yeah I wasn't sure whether to toast them or not so thought it give them a bit of a toast in the oven. Fermentation is well underway this morning. Pitched rehydrated Gervin English Ale yeast into it. It has got to work very quickly. :-)

The darts were a great idea! I didn't manage to throw too many arrows tonight though as I normally do a 90min boil and did 60min tonight so not quite so much "hanging around" time. I do that find a pint of homebrew and throwing a few darts quite a good way to relax.
