Spiced Apple Wine Should it be bubbling?

    Sorry it's taken a while but I've got round finally to taking two measurements from each dj. 5/11/14 DJ1 : 1.26 DJ2 : 1.00 DJ3 :1.00 9/11/14 DJ1 : 1.24 DJ2 : 1.00 DJ3 :1.00 Possible misreading on DJ1. Do I take it that the ones reading 1.00 are ok to bottle but I should wait a bit...

Spiced Apple Wine Should it be bubbling?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help? I've got two batches of Andy Hamilton's Spiced Apple Wine on the go, with a slight variation in the method between the two to see what difference it makes. All went well in the brewing buckets and they've now been in demi johns for 12 days but...

Help needed with Hydrometer reading and is ferment finished

Cheers for that - I didn't know there were different hydrometers for wine and beer! Will try giving it a good stir and putting it somewhere cooler for another week and seeing what happens.

Help needed with Hydrometer reading and is ferment finished

Scale goes from .995 to .100. Tried it in plain water and it floats 2 increments below .000 (Which I took to be 1.000 although no number 1 on scale). That would mean readings would be 1.037 and 1.042 which is why I'm asking is it stuck due to high temp in kitchen? Already said did not take...

Help needed with Hydrometer reading and is ferment finished

Hi All, Well my Strawberry Ribena wine seemed to go ok but now need help. On 15th July using Kirton's recipe (doubled as I had a 1 lt bottle) then put into 2 dj's sitting on kitchen worktop. Ferment went crazy for a few days then calmed down. Kept bubbling and slowing down til two days ago no...

Well this is exciting: parsnip wine

It could be the parsnip woody core that's fermenting. I once made a double batch of Spicy Parsnip soup and left the pot on the hob over night as it wouldn't fit in the fridge. Next morning it was fermenting and bubbling and stunk to high heaven. Guess this was why the recipe said to make sure...

    Tannin in Winemaking

Checked the temp in the kitchen last night - 25 deg C, this morning 24 deg C. May explain the hyperactive yeast! Still streaming bubbles all the way through the liquid like a bottle of pop when first opened. Just glad there's a logical explanation apart from me having found some new kind of...

    Tannin in Winemaking

Well - I followed Kirton's recipe and put it in the Demijohns last night where it did the very occasional bubble. Woke up this morning to find it had gone crazy! This afternoon it was trying to crawl out of the airlock so I had to quickly sterilise another demijohn and transfer some over to...

    Tannin in Winemaking

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have a question that no doubt you can all answer. I've already got some Strawberry Ribena and so I was thinking of making wine with it. I've seen loads of other posts here about it and noticed that some recipes call for Tea for the Tannin and others don't mention...
