    Sediment in wine

    Hi I've made some wine and bottled it but my last 1 or 2 glasses are cloudy due to sediment. Is there some way of filtering it or preventing too much sediment?

    Lemongrass and ginger

    If I'm doing a standard ale kit can I add fresh lemongrass and ginger to it after or during fermenting? I had lemongrass and ginger ale last week at a beer festival and loved it and would like to make my own! Any suggestions or recipes welcome

    Yes I've realised there probably for bottles that already had a Cork in like prosecco so used my screw, luckily I kept them just in case. Will but some of those you suggested thanks. I'm hoping it tastes OK and if so will try a 20 bottle next. Was it right to have sediment at the bottom?

    Hi just brewed my first wine kit I've made 4 bottles out of a 6 bottle kit due to spillage and over hydrometer readings. Any how I've used corks with plastic top which are loose, do these expand to keep airtight or do they stay loose? I've also kept the original screw lids if they are better...

    Thank you yes I meant 1.010 will leave it until weekend and try another sample but don't want to take too many as it's only a 6 bottle kit 😆 thanks for advice. One more question does the finings make it sweeter? I'm into a nice dry wine not too sweet

    Hi I'm on my first wine kit and it's gone from 1.80 to 1.10 , is it nearly done? It's been going for 10 days but at 18 degrees as I have no warm place. I have just received an heat belt but not sure weather to just leave it as it is?

    Sterilise

    Wow this thread went a bit mental I don't have dog poo but a little one who is potty training so I can use some of her waste! I've sterilised and filled my bottles within the hour so will just do it this way and let you know if I am OK after drinking it

    I like a good Marlborough with melon or similar notes and with a citrus taste, would this apply to your suggestion? Sounds nice either way when would I add this?

    Hi I'm about to start my first wine tomorrow I have sauvignon blanc (style) I'm sure it won't be amazing but is there any way of adding anything to enhance the flavour like adding lemon or other ingredients? I'm going to do the kit as instructed this time but might experiment next time!

    Hi I've just sterilised and bottled my first brew it took me a while from start to finish. Once I've sterilised my bottles how long will they stay clean? I was thinking if I did it in the morning would they still be clean at the evening?

    That's fine I'm I no rush and have plenty of shops for ale in the mean time. By summer I should have a good supply of beer and wine!

    I've had a off pint in the past and the taste I had slightly reminded me of this so I'm just hoping it changes jnce completed and bottled but it's my 1st attempt so I'm not expecting a great ale Cheers

    I've just done another reading (being a bit impatient ) and it's now 1.12 so I'm happy with that but going to leave it couple more days to be sure. I also had a little taste it definitely tastes like beer but a little harsh I'm hoping this is just cos it's not completed!

    Yes will leave it at least another week think I've only just got the temperature up so it's a late starter I'm lending a heat belt tomorrow as I'm not convinced it's warm enough where it is and have no where else. Will also try calibrate idea. I'm brewing a pale ale

    Done a reading at 20 degrees was 1.020 is sort of right? I've looked at hydrometer readings and got baffled to be honest think it's something I will have to learn as I go along

    Adding ingredients

    Hi if using a beer or wine kit is it possible or recommended to add extra ingredients like ginger lime or other random fresh items? Also other packs of hops to add extra taste? If so what stage should I add these?
