    Bootsale find.

Hi guys. I've just purchased a Young's Bitter Kit... everything still in the box for £5 at my local boot sale. Problem is, the sell by date on the tin is Oct 2011. Has anyone every brewed a kit this long out of date? I'm tempted just to try it anyway, without too much expectation. Any advice...

    Recommend me an IPA

Piemaster, I've just recently conditioned ( and drank some of) a St Peter's IPA kit, which in my opinion was much better than a Cooper's IPA that I did previously. I brewed it a bit short to around 20l ( however I think the kit is actually designed for this volume... I can't remember) and it's...

    Minimum deviation from kit instructions?

I would consider brewing it a bit short, say to around 20l. I did this kit a couple of months ago and was recommended to do this to increase body and flavour as well as up the abv a wee bit. It's just becoming a lovely pint. If I do another one I'll brew it short again.

    Dead Brewferm Ambiorix?

The og was in the region of 1060. I've not measured it again since, but will do. Room temp is around 18-20 degrees, depending on the time of day.

    Dead Brewferm Ambiorix?

Hi guys. 4 days ago I brewed 2 kits, a Woodforde's Admiral Reserve and a Brewferm Ambiorix. Both are in fv's in the same room. The Admiral's Reserve is off like a rocket, however the Ambi is absolutely still. There is nothing through the airlock. I do realise that co2 can escape other then...

Woodforde Wherry – Has it stalled?

I brewed a Woodforde's Wherry some weeks ago and it finished at exactly 1014, the same as yours. My gut reaction is that yours is finished too. I bottle primed and warm secondary fermented for 2 weeks and they've been in a cold cellar for about a month now. Honestly, it's a really good homebrew...

    Am I risking infection?

Thanks guys. My gut reaction is just to leave it and hope for the best. I'll be more careful next time.

    Am I risking infection?

Hi guys. Today I bottled a Woodforde's Wherry, my 4th brew kit after what's been a fun 4 months or so of getting into home brewing. I've thoroughly enjoyed each kit I've done and I genuinely believe each one has been better than the last. I'm looking forward to getting involved in partial...

    A couple of bottling questions

As a beginner who's only done a few kits, I can only speak from my own limited experience when I say that each time I've bottled, (usually after 3 weeks in fv) the fermentation process has never truly stopped completely. There has always been the slightest amount of CO2 still being produced just...

    FG possibly a bit high?

My Wherry also finished around 1014. It's been bottled and no problems with it.

How to make my W. Nog stronger?

Hi Richy. I'm a newbie to homebrew and have just recently bottled a Woodforde's Wherry. My simple method of increasing the % vol was to only brew 19 litres instead of the standard 23 litres. This simple increase in concentration strength should increase your alcohol %. Hope this helps. Tom

Now look what I have gone and done...

What a wonderful story. Best wishes for your future.

Oxygen ingress into FV and other issues.

Thanks guys... 1. I was kinda paranoid about taking samples for hydrometer readings. 2. I get it now, it shouldn't be a problem. 3. She's not too bad... really! Thanks again guys. I've had some great, friendly advice over the past few weeks. Tom

Oxygen ingress into FV and other issues.

Hi guys. Been reading the forum now for around a month, so still very much a beginner; only on my second kit so far. I have a couple of general questions that hopefully someone experienced will be able to help with... 1. I have a 25l (ish) sized fv with a snap on lid and a hole for the...

    Wort Temp Too High?

Thanks, was thinking of doing just that.

    Wort Temp Too High?

Hi Everyone... I've just added my kit to the fv, and with water added I seam to have a temperature of 29-30 C... D'oh!!! Is this too high to add my yeast, and if so, is my wort gonna be ok to wait till the temperature drops? Apologies for the beginners' error. Tom

    General advice needed.

Thanks guys. I'll probably not add anything to it then, maybe take the volume down slightly. I'll see what my local brewshop have by way of yeast alternatives. Tom

    General advice needed.

Hi everyone. I'm a complete beginner and I've just bottled my first kit, a Cooper's I.P.A. and I'm getting impatient to start another one. I'm thinking of a Woodforde's Wherry as it seems to get decent reviews on this forum. With the Coopers kit I just followed the basic instructions, and this...

    Fermentation finished?

Thanks guys. I'll be happy with any decent outcome from what is, after all my first venture into brewing. No offence meant to any Cooper's IPA fans out there, it smells and tastes ok... just a wee bit lacking in "oomph" if you know what I mean. I will def try the wherry next time. Tom
