"I do suggest for your next kit you only add hops as a dry hop towards the end of the fermentation period "
But others are saying here if you only boil for 20 minutes then it would not have much effect [terrym}. If you don't boil it then you wont get the benefit of the hop.
I thought next time...
No I did not get a recipe for the hops. BruPacks had old stock and were giving them away free to get rid. In addition to 2 scammonden dark, I received the following hops (free) vacuum packed in foil.
Wakatu 100g
Southern cross 100g
Sorachi Ace 100g
Sovereign 100g
Wai-iti 100g.
It's whether it...
Hi. I had difficulty over the last decade getting an old favourite Brupacks pride of yorkshire scammonden dark. In the end I managed yo contact bruPacks directly and they sold two kits to me. When it arrived it had 5 aluminum sealed bags of hops. As I used to do home brew using the ingredients...
I lagged it so that the temperature would be more consistent all through. For example, if the temperature goes down the heater comes on. It will be a lot hotter around the area of the heater. This would increase as the heat moves out. Doing this keeps it more consistently the same throughout...
I did measure the temp. The heater is OK fairly new and has been used lot of times in beer brewing and checked. Never monitored temp when it was flowing over as I haven't got a very long temperature probe.
Can the fermentation drive the temperature VERY high. Compost heaps are very hot inside...
I added some 1kg of sugar to a beverdale Shiraz. I have done this in the past with other kits because the volume was lower than I liked. However, to my surprise it measured 110. That equates to 14.5% APV. I tend to put a heater in their which is set to 20C. I also put a duvet. To keep the...
Left it too late in November to do the St peters ruby. What is the best temperature to keep the keg to clear it? I have had it in the keg for 3 weeks. Still hazy. Thought by transferring it to a shed (13°) wold work faster.
I have had a replacement float system and I have noticed the very thin rubber washer that is on the end of the white bung. The other one was not sitting well on the white bung. I have asked home brew on line and it looks like you have to replace the entire float system. You can't get replacement...

Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. The barrel (yes, it is a keg really) holds its pressure over night. This rule out the 4-inch top cap and the outer extremities of the tap. I say the tap because if there...
No i think it is a design fault. Check it out. There is a white plastic insert behind the tap with a ridiculously small washer. When you open the valve, air gets past this through the tap. When the level of the beer is above the tap: no problem.
Don't ask me why but it has to be the plastic...
Since I bought a King Keg I have had nothing but problems. When the beer goes down about half way (below tap. It's a top tab keg) I get gas with the beer. I Was told that the plastic tube is too long by another home brew supplier. I took 4 inches of it and it did make a slight difference. I have...
All well and good but if HM Government get wind then they'll be looking for someway to make up for the loss in tax revenue from less beer being bought in the supermarket / pub.
Is this a fact? The guy in the shop only heard about it.
There was an item on TV. The sales of home brewing has increased presumably over austerity conditions. They went on to say that home brewers can make better beer than even the smallest of breweries.
You learn something every day Ha Ha Ha.
Been down to elvington (Home Brew Online.
They do sell stills. We had a chat and it is believed that you can make your own spirits if it is for home consumption. He said up to 2,500 Ltr's.
Any info on this. He said he wanted to confirm with .gov.uk
Hi I broke my old hydrometer. Got one on line. The old one had an alcohol scale and an SG scale. This one doesn't is there a printable or calculating website to help with this please. I normally have a value of 40 to 50 for the beer.
Thanks.
Watching a cooking program today, there was a discussion on beer making. The guy said that things you cook with can also be used in brewing. He highlighted, coriander, cumin and paprika. Has anyone experimented with this?
yes I agree. This invention was not thought through to the end. You would have to keep pulling the tube off to clean key. Over a period of time this would wear out.
What is needed is a garden hose approach with a rubber connection with a Jubilee clip.
Just found this on the home brew on line...
Bought this from home brew on line. This is a cooler box where you put cold water and frozen jell packs into a box. This sounds great to keep your beer cold. There is a very long tube in side (holding about 2 pints), the idea is a pub cooler. The tube is supposed to fit onto the special narrow...
