I just used the dextrose brewing sugar that came with the coopers micro brew kit...I'll leave it till 14 days and take another reading and post back the results.. Is the cidery taste normal at this stage?

Ok so what does that mean? Where may I have gone wrong or do I need to just let it keep going for a few more days? Also I sampled a small bit of it.. It obviously hasnt finished but it tasted ok with a slight cidery after taste but I assume thats just because the fermentation hasnt finished yet...

Ok so i'll check with the hydrometer after 5 but leave it in for 10-14 and then bottle it.. A stupid question here but.. How do you know if you got it right? Should it smell off or something if it doesnt work?

There is a foamy head at the top alright and the airlock is uneven but no bubbles.. If there are no bubbles how do you know when the beer is ready to be bottled? Should I just do a hydrometer test after 4-5 days?
