    Summer Brew Comments PLease......

Hi Guys. This weekend a mate is coming over to do his first AG brew (he has previously done kits and a couple of extract brews) and we came up with the recipe below based on the ingredients in stock. The aim is for a light summery beer with a bit of malt character and nice classic European...

    Bypassing Ritchies Boiler Thermostat

Cheers D. I think the electrim and this ritchies are the same type. I don't fancy rewiring as electrics are not really my strongpoint. I am wondering if there is something simple inside that can be removed/tinkered with to get a solid boil...?

    Bypassing Ritchies Boiler Thermostat

Hi Guys. I recently got a secondhand ritchies boiler that I intend to use as a HLT in my forthcoming 3 vessel set up. Its the one with a single element controlled by a Bruheat thermostat. Yesterday I was calibrating a new dipstick to make sure I get my volumes right and I banged on the heat to...

    NZ Pale Ale Recipe

Hi Guys. I have some Riwaka and Motueka hops just begging to be used in something light and hoppy ready for the warmer months ahead and came up with the following idea for a brew. The Carahell is there as it needs used up. Its quite a straightforward grain bill - does it need anything added...

    wlp002

Not necessarily. I did a dark mild (and am drinking one now) that had 6kg of pale 400g black, 220g crystal and a bit of wheat in a 25l brew length and I used WLP002 and it tastes great. Took a while to come good mind but is far from sooty. I would have thought that the addition of the lactose...

Don't forget that the fg will be higher for a milk stout due to the unfermentable lactose that you added.

    eBay and hops

Most of the sellers on ebay don't seem to vac pack the hops so that rules them out for me. There is one seller on there that is a member on JBK and I would trust him as he vac packs and as a brewer understands the need to store the hops correctly.

    should i be worried

Agree with giving it a bit longer. If it is an infection there is not really anything you can do to get rid of it from the beer so you might as well wait and see. No point ditching a brew unless you are sure you have a problem. Good luck! I hope it runs out ok.

    plastic re-seals

I agree with Vossy. I wouldn't trust these for sealing anything that had much carbonation going on. I use them to reseal bottles once I have washed them so that all I need to do is squirt a bit of starsan solution in them just before refilling with the next brew.

    How much Coriander?

Try to get hold of the indian variety of coriander seeds if you can. They look yellowish in colour and oval shaped rather than the round brown ones. They have a more fragrant almost lemony flavour if you chew one. The others tend to be a bit vegetal. I did an extract witbier with a friend at...

BIAB "Woodshed Pale Ale" Brewday *photo heavy!

Nice simple set up you have there - just as BIAB should be. Nice combination of hops as well should be a cracker in time. Cheers! Jim

    Hello from Wiltshire!

Hi guys and gals! I joined up about a year ago and have not been a very frequent visitor but hope to change that. I recognise a lot of names from JBK and look forward to meeting lots of new faces out on the forum. I have been brewing for about 18 months and turned all-grain just under...
